32 Ohms is perfectly ok for a portable music player. So the good news is: you only have to change your player, not your headphones ;)

Well check your headphones's impedance before anyway, because it might still not sound right in an iPod if it's too high and you'll eventually end up buying a new player and a new set of headphones. But after that all your problems will be gone :p Your impendance should be around 50-60 ohms for an iPod or portable music player. To check, google your headphone's model and look on the stats, there is a specific line for impedance with every decent model

maybe your headphones are built to work better in a studio and need more juice than your mp3 player can give to work properly. However, this answer is far-fetched and the real one is probably that your mp3 player is cheap and therefore does not provide high volume. If you're on a PC, buy a Samsung player (between 80-140 depending on the models) they are not user-friendly but provide an awesome definition as well as the capacity to become deaf quite quickly (but they are NOT recognized by Macs, so don't bother plugging a samsung player in a mac).

You can also check in your MP3 settings if the ''volume limiter'' is ON. Usually it's OFF by default though
