Love that quote... I think it's quite true in this situation, the reaction I've been seeing so much of on facebook statuses depicts her as a "crack head" and nothing but... I think we all know and have in our surrounding people who are dealing with drug problems and drug abuse and when some one we know who's in that situation passes away, I see feelings of sympathy, not hate and disdain...

Amy Winehouse, might not have been one of our buddies and might have fucked up... bad. Still, it's obvious that the state she was in at her last show isn't something that she desired. I sure as hell would not have wanted to be in the crowd but I would not have wanted to be in her shoes either (mostly because I have size 13 feet, and it would hurt as hell to try and walk around in her heels). When you're at a point in life when you're playing a show in front of a shitload of people and you just can't help it but to fuck yourself up before you even walk on stage, I think that's sad... not funny.
I'm feeling forward every thurs right now..

Sorry to burst your bubble but its clear you DO NOT know what u r talking about!
The girl had an amazing voice! Reknowned by many famous singers who have openly stated that her voice is/was a rare voice she had a frank sinatra kind if voice! Loads of proffesional signers would give their left ball sack to sign like she did!

Perhaps she let the drugs take over her life.. like many famous rich singers who worked hard to stand in the spot light and sometimes give in to the party life!

Respect to her

I read things as "hope she die more than once"...disrespecting a dead person is so weak, okey she dissapointed alot of people, but maybe she had demons inside.

how can u handle ur fame or what others are waiting from u when u cant handle what u ave become.
She was an artist, artist are trying to express them self by any way possible, with the tool they own.

Amy Winehouse, you had to die for me to listen and understand ur music.R.I.P

When u look at a bright Star, its probably already dead....

On the other hand, a man can fuck a thousand sheep, and fuck a hundred goats, but he dies ONCE, and people will say he simply had a healthy sex drive.

I get that we have to respect the dead, but maybe people should have respected her while she was alive instead.

Anyway, it's always the same, when a pop-star is around they get compromising youtube videos and memes; but they they're gone, they get flowers and a glorifying tombstone. Then again, I guess it's the same kind of story for anyone ...

btw: Whinehouse's cause of death ??

"They tried to make me go to rehab but I said 'no, no, no'"

Take the hint if you need to. Take a good look at your own habits, and really THINK of the consequences. Are you in control? Death is pretty much final.

(I am NOT targetting anyone in particular, or everyone in general. But there is bound to be people who don't manage their drug use as well as they should.)
I'm feeling gleeful right now..

With our lifestyle, we're all likely to know some people with various degrees of addiction, while many more keep drugs as a form of entertainment while living an otherwise balanced life.
Among the people I know, there are some who have successfully overcome addiction, and some who just keep saying that they should do something about it and never make more than a feeble attempt at getting better. Some snapping at the people surrounding them for not, basically, doing all the work for them.
I can be extremely supportive, but I don't believe in coddling people who won't help themselves in the first place.

I understand that it isn't easy to overcome an addiction. There are choices that need to be made to succeed that are harder than just quitting the substance(s) itself. In many cases, this means putting a cross on a good many friends. At the very least, some major lifestyle changes will be needed (if you want to stop taking drugs, you most likely can't be around people doing them. Obviously, you can't go to raves).

In Amy's choice, it might have meant changing careers, too.

One friend who did succeed (as far as I know - I don't see him anymore (we'd been out of touch for a few years already when this happened), but I keep in touch here and there through social networks) sent a note to a bunch of people a while back, explaining that he would not be able to see us anymore, that he loves us, but had to make a choice - that he realized his life was in danger, and he chose life. I was extremely proud of him.

I don't know enough about Amy to know whether she made genuine attempts at getting better. I don't know her at all. The single fact that makes me cringe about her is her famous rehab song, which to me sounds like glorification of poor life choices. That, I can not respect.
Unfortunately, we'll never know if, had she survived long enough, she would have gotten over it. So yeah, I can't say I have much compassion for her as she was (seemed to be) when she died. But, as cold as it may seem, it looks to me like a good opportunity for people who are not in control of their drug use to wake up.

You can be happy. Everyone has the potential for happiness in them. Burrying yourself in a cloud of god-knows-what might numb you, but it's the worst possible way of achieving this.

Hm, yeah, "glorification" is an exageration, but still... it's refusal to help oneself and making a song about it still irks me.

A few things came to mind after watching this Youtube video of Amy in concert in Belgrade a few weeks ago where she was so wasted, she would sing about 2 sentences and wander around the stage aimlessly.

1. did her entourage support her in any way ? After seeing this video, all I could think of is her agent not putting his or her foot down and saying "Amy, you can't walk on stage looking like that" and prevent her from appearing publicly in this state. Apparently her tour was cancelled after this video started circulating online but why wasn't this addressed BEFORE ? Why wasn't the tour cancelled way before that and Amy given a serious talk about professionalism ? I don't want to draw any conclusions here but it appeared to me as though the said agent would only see the monetary benefits from letting her walk on stage this fucked up. As much as Amy was hard-headed, someone should've still slapped some sense into her and tell her that from a professional standpoint, this can't be done.

2. what about Amy herself ? When 8000 of your adoring fans fill a large venue to see YOUR show and you go on stage for 15 minutes and do shit all 'cause you're too high to know what you're doing, I'm sorry to say but you are disrespecting and disappointing a lot of paying customers who usually have an unconditional love towards you no matter what terrible addiction and affliction you are going through... and this is how you show how grateful you are they are all here tonight, bought your albums, know all your lyrics by heart and are holding up huge billboards written "We love you Amy" ? Regardless of how fast you shot up to stardom and how difficult it is for you to cope ( Cobain indeed couldn't deal with it but he was professional enough to perform on stage for those who loved and supported him ), you should owe it to yourself to at least make an effort on stage to honor those who made it so that you're incredibly popular and rich and ultimately, the reason you can smoke so much crack and snort so much cocaine.

As much as Amy had talent, she clearly chose drugs and herself over ANYTHING or ANYBODY else. That, I have no respect for. Regardless of addiction and such, there are a few moment of lucidity once in a while where you should AT LEAST introspect and think about someone else but you once in a while, especially when you're in a position where you have a few millions supporters.
