BTW- TLDR

In the past 2 years, hundreds of free parties took place and succeeded.

Frankly, I don't give a fuck about doing money with the parties I do. I've got a good job and don't need to stress to know if my party is going to break even or not.

How many promoters really make money from the parties they organise? 3 out of 10 ?
How many earn a living from it ? none ?

Each free party we organise I 'loose' on average 50-60$. No big deal. How much is a ticket to a big rave? 40$ ? 50$ ?

If you're in the event game to make money, you're probably in the wrong bussiness...
I'm feeling good right now..

As we only have 4 months of something that we can call summer here, I prefer by far to party outside as much as possible, and outside events have a very different vibe from inside events.
I'm feeling $%? right now..

If you've been in the event game for years and don't make money you are definitely in the wrong business.

As much fun as those parties can be, I wouldn't organize em. Way too much effort for no gain other than satisfaction.

Sounds capitalistic, sure... I got bills to pay and losing money and incredible amounts of time to make a thousand ravers happy simply doesn't cut it for me.

A free outdoor event, is definitely not the same as some bar, or venue.
I didn't even get to hear any music at Epic 2, cops were already there before me,
but strangely, I still had fun walking there, seeing the people etc etc...
I'm feeling like a sketchbook! right now..

Can you name many rave promoters who have been in the rave business for years and making significant money ???
I don't know any.

Some raves end up with good gains, then your next event with a big loss.

It's all random.

I would rather have a free party where I know I'll spend maybe 60$ and won't loose anything else.

If you really have 3000$ to invest and your goal is to make money, don't invest it in a rave.

The risk/return is just not worth it !!!

its ALL about how tight one handles their budget, period.
to be aware of every single penny spent/earned and if you play your cards right some profit can be made.

but one mustnt get into promotion and be aiming for profit upfront though... that geting into promotion for wrong reasons, imo.

my philosophy on party money: better off to consider your investment as a direct loss and again, if the cards are well played all the way thru, profit can be made and will be a MUCH sweeter bonus.

Well it all depends on your approach, if you aim to spend most of your time working on events, then it better damn well be profitable. If you look at it as a hobby of sorts, then it's money well spent.

I've taken part in many events in the 90s and it was, for me a hobby, there wasn't much money being made and that was fine. Today I wouldn't go through all of that because I just find that it isn't worth my investment in terms of time mostly, I'd rather spend that time with my GF and friends or working on perfecting my designing skills.

If promotion and making incredible events is what you love and want to do for a living then it sure as hell won't be with free parties or HUGE events with minimal profit. Of course if you choose to go where the money is, then you will probably end up dealing with the clubber crowd which isn't something everyone in this small scene is ready to deal with.

I'm feeling forward every thurs right now..
