You guys would have loved my nights at Passeport in the 90s (the original Passeport on StDenis & Rachel, not the new one). Half of what I played was industrial, the other half big beat, breaks, belgian new beat, acid, & amon tobin/aphex twin style dnb.

I used to end my night with "Thieves" by Ministry with the strobe light on full blast lol...

But yeah all that good shit Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Nitzer Ebb, Sisters Of Mercy, you name it, I dropped it, all on wax too, they had about 3,000 records on the wall behind the dj booth in that place, going back to the early 80s. The rarest shit you can imagine and the wierdest fucking crowd too, goths, ravers, rockers, all mixed up

It came to an end around 2000, when all that shitty ebm stuff took over, VNV Nation, that kind of trancey industrial pop all the goths started to listen to.

For me it was like they were stealing all those ideas from rave music and trying to resell it as industrial, so I refused to play that shit out of principle and eventually got fired and replaced by some "request" dj who was more than happy to sell out

Thats when I said fuck it, I'm gonna go this breaks shit cause no one else was doing it at the time and I started my night at Blizzarts.

Haven't looked back since :)
I'm feeling sunshine right now..

There's always been innovations in this scene but it was extremely limited and small. The dancier stuff took over but many artists have kept with the original industrial idea. In fact, I always thought of the noize scene as the natural post-industrial successor in terms of artistic intent and sound exploration. In the second half of the 90's and first half of 2Ks, all I listened to was indutrial, coldwave and ebm. That led to ambient, electro-acoustic, idm and noize.
Then I got an overdose of it all ;)

Man, I think you need to reeducate me in the realm of dubstep. I think I might have the wrong idea. Haha

I agree, alot of the old "tactics" rest within the Noise scene, but, what I mean is, Industrial isn't "Industrial" anymore. It's a fucking club genre now. It was never meant to be that way in my honest opinion. In terms of sound, it was all about sound exploration. People seem to forget this. I see NO exploration within these Terror/Harsh/Aggro genres.

I also firmly believe that some day, the old mentality shall rise again with the Industrial genre. But, maybe this is just delusional, wishful thinking on my part.

Time will tell.

Fishead, as always, i bow down to your insight ;)

what we hear is not always what's being made. what we hear in clubs is alot of popular material, doesn't mean that there aren't a ton of people doing the right thing ... in a basement somewhere.

and i'm truly happy that distortion is now a perfectly normal part of music.
I'm feeling you up right now..

that's good to hear Matt, heheh, the interesting part about playing for crowds of people who have only otherwise heard garbage pop electrostep is that they can be easily opened up to other styles due to the similar structure or the conditioned appreciation of basstones..

two tracks a bit more down your alley

Man, Broken Note are so fucking incredible. I've loved every single thing I've ever heard from them. Why the hell hasn't someone booked them to play a gig down here yet?

What sort of stuff do you spin, when you mix at parties?

One of the members of Broken Note is also from 16-Bit who were here over the summer, I think they're based in Europe right now, but we'll see..

It depends on the gig, sets are based around the party idea/theme, headliner or what time I'm on at.. we have MT Eden coming around Valentines day, so I plan on using heavy, minimal(for dub), romantic female vocal tracks.. Inspector Dubplate in November played mostly popstep hits so closing for him I played older deep ambient dub into stringed instruments(linked one above) into heavy drumstep to contrast..

I've been experimenting more with dnb, breakcore, older dub, jungle, drumstep and have dubstep thrown in conscientiously in sets, I try not to play anything that sounds too techy/electro/digital and keep more towards analogue sub tones.. I could forward you a list of artist names on fb if you'd like

also, like any real filthstep fan, the brutal stuff has a place in my heart..

and by the way i really like the Fused force and Broken Note songs, thanks :)

Usually, shows that arnt exclusively filthy hard dubstep from 10 to 3 will have a very diverse crowd. Otherwise you get a bunch of fanboys going bonkers and getting proper mashed. They don't usually come the mixed nights because, well, from what I've been told, breaks, dnb, glitch hop and deeper dubstep all suck because they're not filthy dubstep...

dubstep scene ruined? hardly... The dubstep scene brings in shitloads of interesting acts and people that arn't so high they can't converse.

I think they talk more about the Filty dubstep scene like Boudha slinky and SJU things I dont think the forward night apply to that

And yeah Scorn and broken note are awsome
I didnt know one of the member of broken note were in 16bit
I heard a lots of shitty track from 16bit

What i listen those days in Dubstep are more Gamma audio recording actraiser Cavalaska , Carbon based records,Droid sector, SPL,
