those two things are closely related... you can enjoy psychedelic things without living the psychedelic experience, you can have a psychedelic mind without the need to ingest the drugs... the yogi and the saddhus will tell you. psychedelic simply means mind-expanding... hence the weird music, weird art, weird clothes... open your mind, we are god's hands, we are all creators. there is no limits to the weirdness, everything just is... in the end, weird is only a judgement that you make from where you stand... when you lose ego as in the psychedelic experience, when your mind expands to the whole world, nothing is weird anymore. everything just is. awesome sounds and colours. novelty. a trip to where you've never been... like a child discovering new worlds... there is purity in non-judgement. what is weird for you may be everyday reality for another, and what is weird for them may be normal to you. aka... in good measure and funky harmony, if it brings people together and have a good time... why not :) :) :) Mise À Jour » AYkiN0XiA a écrit sur Mon 10 Jan, 2011 @ 5:09pm also the weirder things are to you, the more destabilizing they are, the more they require that you detach yourself from ego and expand your mind in order to appreciate them. which is the reason why i am listening to a waltz sung in... some gypsy language..... right as i am writing this ;) Mise À Jour » AYkiN0XiA a écrit sur Mon 10 Jan, 2011 @ 5:30pm and... a TRIP... is what people take and willingly expose themselves to cultural difference and experience a culture shock... because it broadens their horizons, it expands their minds...

 Coolness: 50380 | To me it's obvious that the reason some people (me included) like "weird" music is because one of the most important quality of "weird" music is it's originality and the idea of pushing the limits. I have a hard time understanding the reasons of musicians for doing the same formula again and again when there's so many undiscovered fields to explore. It is what makes the difference between musicians and producers who will be remembered in ten years and those who won't.
I like music that makes me dance, but also music that I can enjoy with my headphones on that will stimulate my imagination. The best music is the one that will do both. |

| Coolness: 50380 | I'd like to give a psytrance example but my knowledge about psytrance isn't as extensive as my idm/glitch-hop knowledge. What I consider "weird": music that takes influences from many different styles and exploit them to the point where it becomes hard to categorize the music. That, or music different enough that you can hardly tell where it gets it's ideas from. Not sure if it's weird enough to be called "weird", but psybreaks in general are awesome: I love psytrance and it's different subgenres. The problem I see with that scene though, is that it seems like many DJs/producers/fans listen a lot to psytrance and not a lot of other music, and it apprears in the music that get played at most parties. I think I just like to see DJs and producers try new things and take some risks with their music. It doesn't always work, but at least the music is interesting and help make the genre evolve. I know it's not psytrance, but it's a good example: Shpongle wouldn't be so popular if Postford would've said "oh no, this is probably too twisted for the public". Then again, I'm not sure if Shpongle fits in your definition of "weird". |
