| Coolness: 166575 | hmm yes. but not in the typical morning. it is though some music i enjoy hearing in the morning. it would probably fit more in the goa category i guess... even though it's not stereotypical goa either. fuck i just really like that track and i felt like posting it :)
something like that is more typical morning stuff -- feels like sunshine, feels groovy, takes you somewhere... ;) hmmmm not so typical. i'm struggling to find the perfect example. there are lots of awesome music to be played in the morning............... I prefer morning trance over progressive trance in the morning hands down. Something groovy and very funky Secret Vibe is an nice example. A style to finish off the night that keeps you in trance while gently pulling out back to your surroundings. While, progressive is repetitive which would seem conducive to trance, for me every track sounds the same, it's the same beat with different bells and whistle, causing boredom which kills the trance. When I go out to psy-rave I dance from the minute I'm there to the minute I leave for the this reason I like it when the hard beats turn into funky beats, a bit like what Yoshin said "...the dark psy is soooooo awesome at the right time, it tears your brain to pieces :) and melodic psy puts it back together is a harmonic way" I find it hard to trance all night just to be ripped out of it by music that doesn't flow from the previous style. And progressive always kills it (for me). I must admit something like human blue or etnica would sound very similar to the night time music if the night was very psy-goa like, but if it came after dark psy and harder beats like that it would sound very different while keeping the flow (the wave motion of a trance) that progressive just doesn't do. |

AND the problem with melodies Ann, is that melodies are a lot harder to like, a set full of melodies will send most people home cause not everyone has the same taste and most people will just not 'dig' it... again, let's be realistic, people will come together and agree on a sound when it's pretty ambiguous, anything too precise (lots of melody) will really just be an exercise in how long it takes to clear the dancefloor... people, especially high people, are NOT going to wait for a song they like, if they truly dislike a beat, they are probably going to think about leaving, period. you know, one track you like, the next one you don't and so on means you really dislike the DJ. But a song you love, and then an OK song, well people will stick around for that... Also morning psy is gay, since raves are 75% guys, and guys don't like gay melodies unless they're on E.... you get the result of psy parties today. To be honest if you ever trowed the same kind of Montreal psy parties in quebec people would probably not stay more than half the party. Doesn't mean your parties are bad, not at all, It's just the way things evolved in Montreal. Every psy promoters like darker psy so you developped a darker scene. Logic! I still don't get how people don't get tired after 4 hours of the same thing. But don't misunderstand me there It's not like you could trow a morning fullon party in quebec either. Simply too much of the same thing is, too much. Someday or another, your people will get tired of this and i'm pretty sure of it. What about putting one or 2 fullon djs? wouldn't hurt imo. If you truly don't like morning, it doesn't mean you need to stay 100% dark. People won't complain about preciseness of melodies if it's only 1h30 of morning set. It always worked in quebec, it worked for me in montreal (Even though you have a dark psy scene), and it work for Ananda Shake anytime. You should just try to open your mind a little :) Peace! |

I think it takes an open mind to be at a rave in the first place, then having to open you mind a second time for beats you normally wouldn't dig, that's pushing it a bit. I mean no disrespect though, when I used you as an example it was meant to show that even some one with talent like yours tends to get lost of the fold because the psy style changes constantly and leaves no survivors... now THAT sounds dark... really though montreal is not about dark psy, it's about twilight psy... slight difference |

is as bad as the vibe tribe party in quebec when the full-on started at like 8 or 10 pm and the same beat was playing all night with cheezy synth lines. :( please bring variety of psy. make us travel, make us trip. lift-off, peak and bumps, and come down. montreal is not 'all about' twilight psy... but it's so much of what's being played, and too much of the same thing makes people tired of it after a year or two. montreal may very well go all-dark-psy soon... and that would be no better, really. a psychedelic trip is a TRIP. it says it. travelling........... not staying at the same place all night. more contrast, as more darkness makes the light shine brighter. and when it's too light, the shadow feels so good :) |
