dubstep hustled it's way to where it is now too

i remember i hated it few years ago when only few ppl in montreal were throwing (almost empty) jams. And people were like ooohhh nooo dubstep! and we'de run out of the place.

But it had time to evolve, the bass got harder, the kicks got louder, and the "dub" part was left to rot under the sun... now it's just crazy. it's just massive BASS. And unlike DNB you can dance without getting tired after 5 min (for us old farts who like to drink at parties).

I love DNB, don't get me wrong, but if i hear mo fiyah one more time i'll kill somebody. and even new tracks sound almost the same as when i stopped listening to it.

Don't blame breaks or fidget, it's the crowd in montreal. Some people get born way ahead of their time, some are just born in a wrong city. if it doesn't work here, try moving to a place where people will love your stuff and where you'll get the credit you deserve.

And as for people getting their dark side out... they already have ravewave! heheh

peace!
I'm feeling like 1 000 000 000$ right now..

It's nice to see people manifest there love
for d&b,but it's healthy to like and play other
stuff, seen so many dj's be so d&b purist that
they end up being sick of it like Maus, stabba, double a..ect
Anyway dubstep, fidget, bassline tags will dissapear till
12 years and come back with new names!
Being a dj purist was good in da 90's cause the music
was less accessible!
Mtl is not really a haven for aggressive music dj cause
most of the crowd is young and poor and grow to like chiller
music when they reach a certain age!
It is great that u seem to have a mission with d&b.
Dj's should have goals not just pickin up chicks;
I try to promote [ t..ca ] i think its
great fraternising musik that heals the soul!

so stay focus,keep it real
I'm feeling "o" reginal retar right now..

drum and bass was ruined when neurofunk and all that hard shit came out.

it became a dick measuring competition on who can make the biggest baddest bass and not who could write a good tune.

dnb lacks musicality now adays.its chin scratching music .

more ting ting ting and less womp womp womp please.thx ok bye.

when you have to listen to 30 releases to find something with a heartbeat its time to leave the genre alone for a while.
I'm feeling merkle right now..

Guess I'm a fagzor then :)

Fred: the cynic asshole in me would love to reply to that rant with some cheap comment like tl;dr... But I won't.

I'm glad you got that off your chest. And I'm glad my assumptions about you were right. You don't pander to anyone but yourself, and that ranks you very high in my book.

Okok, so I'm a punk/ska kid at heart. Somehow discovered trance and loved it for the melodies. Then DnB, for the energy (and yeah, drum patterns and 'melodies' too!). Got into some electro, some house,... Then dubstep, when I discovered artists and DJs that played stuff that made me groove.

I'm no DJ. At best, the son of a dancer and a musician. I wish I could differentiate between labels and sub-genres, but I can't. And I don't intend to learn soon. But I've always appreciated what you played when I did get to see you. And I hope I get to see Screwhead on line-ups more often. :)

...
And my ears are wearing head phones
That do play my favourite songs
Not music i’m told to like
But the songs that make me dance along

'Cuz on my feet are shoes for dancing
Dancing to be free

It is great that we still have djs out there that think like you Screwhead!
But even in an underground scene there are people that want to mix for bookings and get gigs every week, and it's okay I guess. Following the trends was always "in". But the party people are not a herd of sheep and most of them choose well their party. I personally would mostly go to the party where I know there will be the music I love, and I don't care what's popular out there. I don't like fidget nor electro and am also upset that there are less and less of good hardcore/dnb parties out there.
So whenever there is one people go to support the promoter and to have good times with the music they like, and that's what makes it all special! We all wish there were more of those, and we are always ready to go and support, and dance our hearts out, because we have feelings that go with the music too!

2 Mad-K: I agree with you girl, this SuMmEr is gonna be haRDkoreholik! lol ;D

i know what you guys mean. i've been playing hardcore in this city for a decade now, and i've seen aggressive music slowly fade away. however, i also see that there are plenty of ppl that are now very thirsty for the stuff, liquid distortion and potable bass, and maybe that's because it's been rare of late ... and so you guys will never be rid of me :p

anyway, if you're a dj with dignity, you will play only what you like, and hope that others share your taste. through all these years, ppl have always told me to play softer music, to get gigs in clubs and shit, but i refuse. i might drop some prodigy and other techno, but that stuff is hardcore compared to some the housy crap that's been floating around mtl's toilet bowl.

kinda like what fred said, hard music isn't for acting hard, it's for release. it's for confronting life and facing facts; admitting that everything isn't peachy, and that's fine, 'cause we can deal with it. hard tunes help us cope ...

now, i really like dubstep, and find more similarities between it and hardcore than most other styles of techno. i also like d'n'b. i like alot of shit that i'll throw into a set, to please both me and the crowd ...

my musical philosophy is: no limits, no compromises.

my favourite djs are the ones that play what they love, play it well, and do so with humility. lack one of those traits, and you're no longer a disc jockey, but just another douche jockey.
I'm feeling you up right now..

I understand what you can feel Fred. Dubstep / Fidget ok,but don't get me Wrong for the Breaks part. We are in the same boat. When Dubstep start getting bigger and bigger , all breaks dj's start as well playing dubstep. I remember the 1st Mix Thursdays with Sase One playing dubstep and everyone complaining.THey wanted break dnb or electro house. Even me i was like wtf is that music. We became a empty night because Rhys was trying to innovate and this 3 years ago. Breaks and Dnb slowly dissapeared. My favorite artist Deekline even start putting wobble everywhere. It's 2010 ,and they have their peek . I'M not a really fan of dubstep cuz i like to dance,so that's why i prefer bassline or fidget. Wobble still, but dancable and funky vocals ( yeah i always loved the cheeze ). We have kinda one break party by month now ,but before it was every 6 month. This is just the way life goes. LIke sabi said, music has trend to . Dnb will come back as breaks as other genres! As for the promoters who always book the samed dj's .. you are totally right . And if you don't have a night you won't be book in exchange, that's how it rollllll .

so that we can listen to dubstep in peace? XD

but really now, i don't think fred's point was to hate on music that's popular, just to hate on 'why' it's popular & ppl who take advantage of that popularity ...

coincidentally, i was gonna post up on [ rave.ca ] the last dub tracks i worked on, but now i feel like i'm gonna be judged and called unpleasant names :p
