Well today is the day. I'll be there at 5:30-6pm. Hopefully something comes of this. I've been printing out stuff all day! Should be all done in 30 minutes! Then I'm off... I want to get there early. :) Anyways I have no idea what this city thing is about. I had to take off work for this!

it went well... but it was just a question i asked (or was allowed to ask)... and gave in the petition... i think things will work out, it will just take a little time...

btw: you have to show up at 5pm to ask a question, then you wait till like 8:30pm till you can talk... you can't really leave... LONG LONG LONG... i'm glad i showed up early... too bad other people could not make it... we are allowed 3 people to ask the same question... next month we will be 3 people...
I'm feeling nuclear right now..

To whom it may concern,
As you all undoubtedly already know there is an "event" taking place on Mount Royal at the Gazebo that many people are currently fighting for. I have attended the said event and feel that shutting it down is against your best interests. The mountain is a bustling center of community activity on the weekend and I feel that being that so many other gatherings take place at the said times and places that it is unfair to shut down a single event, which has been taking place for 4 years.

You allow others to play tam tam music, are we being persecuted simply because our music takes on electronic forms? Would we be shut down if we all showed up with acoustic guitars and percussion instruments? Obviously not. You must consider that Montreal is an epicenter for electronic music and that we have many events (Piknik electronic and Igloo Fest to name a few) that gather thousands of people together. Also we are known for having a vibrant night life, something that brings in millions of tourist dollars annually.

I hope that you will take my comments seriously.

There that was my message to them, don't be afraid to appropriate
I'm feeling wtf charles? right now..

FEEDBACK PLZ

Hello,
my name is Jean-Philippe Leroux and i am writting to you today because i feel that there is complete lack of justice in a situation that was brought to my attention in the last few weeks.
I had the pleasure to witness at mont-royal a small group of volunteers and artists who put efforts into getting their music out there in a positive and overwhelmingly friendly way. They take care of being very clean and they are very diplomatic when it comes to the authorities trying to stop them from doing what
is their right in the first place.
Everybody and anyone is welcome to join them , they do not act as a private group.
Kids come there to dance in the sun with there parents and friends.
It is 100% free and for all ages , it does not disturb the peace as they do this in a park where a lot of noise is already being generated and they would even be willing to compromise and move to another area near the mountain if necessary since apparently you good people at the city fear that this will reduce the value and the finesse of the Mount Royal National Park.
What exactly is wrong with that?
Those who organise this event put alot of effort and good intentions into this and you're denying them the right to be in a designated area doing this goodwill gesture. Why is that?
There is no law to forbid citizens from playing music outside and as i mentioned earlier this is a complete and grotesque injustice.
During the two Sundays I've spent with this group of young spirited Montrealers, I've seen many many people not related to their group come just to see the people smilling enjoying our green mountain and the good weather while dancing to some new and intersting music.
Tell me , whats the difference between 100 people playing tam tams and a few good men who bring their own equipement and their own electricity in a safe and legal area to let everyone enjoy their art for free?
I doubt there is a law to condemn them. In my opinion this is just a matter of discrimination because they play techno music.
The reason Montreal steps up compared to other cities in Canada is that people from all over the world come HERE to make their event happen
In an environment where there are so many different things to see, what right does one have to condemn one particular gathering and make it disappear but decide to let another one happen?
Had they been playing jazz or classical music would it be the same issue? I doubt it.
Even thought I am not directly involved with this group, at this point i am willing to take some of my time off work to come meet you so we can discuss this further because I fail to understand on what grounds and in what interest this right is being refused to them.
This actually has a great benefit to the city as it makes people gather outside, spend money, as well as move in our very active city where they might
after going to see them, go to the movies, have dinner in a restaurant, or buy some clothes in a boutique which at the moment is what our economy needs.
I do not tolerate any type of racism, fascism and I am against the fact that some can but others are not allowed to. Labeling people and dennying them their right to do something on the grounds that it is not appropriate or it is negative for the environment or the site is an absolute lack of respect towards this group and is also a complete farce because they respect their surrounding areas as well as their fellow citizens.
I'm feeling live!!!! right now..

i would get rid of the whole techno thing because we are not just about techno music... it's about freedom of expression for anything... if people wanted to play other stuff then that is fine also... world music, classical, and electronic all fit in. just the people who come now play the electronic stuff... also it's possible to have jam instruments over the music if people brought it. for instance tamtams over the beats or such...

In my opinion this is just a matter of discrimination because they play techno music.

this is the line to remove or change... other then that it's great...

I do not tolerate any type of racism, fascism and I am against the fact that they are mugged of there right to be in a public area sharing the love of music. Labeling people and denying them their right to do something on the grounds that it is not appropriate or it is negative for the environment or the site is an absolute lack of respect towards this group and is also a complete farce because they respect their surrounding areas as well as their fellow citizens if not more.

This being said , I am waiting for a response from you as this is my cry for justice.
Please do not let this situation go on , it is not necessary to restrict them from there activity as it is in this city best interest.
If you could assist them in getting the permit necessary (if necessary) or just let them be you would be contributing in a major way to the development of this cultural movement whom longs to be accepted by the city and the responsible of our great parcs.

Thank you very much for taking time to read me letter and im eager to ear from you as this as you can see really touches me.

another word for "techno" music is "adult contemporary" music... you can use it with the older crowd and they cheer upon it...

i dunno noah.. do you really think it's wise to hide the word 'techno'?

i think the fact that we play techno IS the problem for the city, it's also the music that brings us all together. until we fight for the right to listen to whatever we want to, we'll always be stuck hiding - and twisting words around in order to be accepted...

we listen to fucking techno! like it or not, it's a fact, and it does not hurt anyone..

keep writing to the city, keep fighting, 'cause i would like to know why this city hates people who listen to non-Mutek-related electronic music.

Nathan, for most of these people, as far as I know, there's no difference between the music that is played at raves, electro from Mutek and house music from "Opera"...

I already picture them thinking: "They have clubs and piknik electronik and afterhours, even the raves are legal, what the fawk more do they want? !"

That is a big problem (((

Take my family for instance: I listen to hardtek in one room and my brother listens to trance/eurodance in another. Our parents come home and tell us both to shut the music of the "devil" down, or lower the volume ))) They all are "techno" music-blind =D
