you're trying to quantify infinity.

you can't.

the number of rational numbers between 0 and 1: infinity

the number of irrational numbers between 0 and 1, however, is greater than the number of rational numbers between 0 and 1. This is a greater level of infinity.

Georg Cantor proved that in fact there are so many more irrational numbers between 0 and 1 than rational numbers, that there are actually NO rational numbers because it's all hopelessly filled in with irrationals. It gets crazier from there...

Just cos you stopped at cal2 doesn't mean that's the end of the story, ya boob.

1/0 Is the size of a wire measured in AWG. It is a larger wire than the #1 AWG.
Since we are talking about number I guess the polite manner of saying idiot would be: ID-TEN-T (id10t)

I've taken cal 1, 2 & 3! as well as two linear algebra courses, an ordinary differential equations course as well as stats which doesn't really count as a math course.

But oddly enough, I still have the over-riding desire to be a pompous arrogant asshole who posts threads on the most pointless shit ever, just to make himself feel smarter. Anyone who's taken a 2nd year level cegep cal course would know limits, so apparently you're one of the few people on here who has. Wow. Want a cookie? Everyone knows about something and probably most of the people on here know about something more interesting than a introductory cal course.

It would be one thing if you wanted to inspire people to "think out of the box", but by posting something you learned in school and telling everyone they are stupid because its "basic math", you're just a fucking dickhead. Its not like you had an original thought, all of your information is what they tell you in school, so you can't even guarantee that you understand it better than anyone else on here. So, good job man, you can regurgitate a text book, mission accomplished. Who the fuck can grasp infinity comfortably, anyways? There is nothing in our world even close to that nature.

Its true there are interesting math theorems, but if you really are interested in math, I don't think you would find limits particularly interesting as there are definitely better things to think about. But maybe you just like reminiscing about the good ol' days of cal 2, a time when you had better things to do than start a thread about limits on a raver page.

God, you're a tool.

This is also what they tell you in school:

No, you cannot have a number bigger than infinity because infinity never stops growing, so even if you added 89543859489438590859034859430859358935 etc. to infinity it would not make any difference to the overall number because the sum of infinity is so great. It does not even matter where the infinity begins, one infinity could even start at 89543859489438590859034859430859358935 and the other at 0 but the difference between the infinities would just get smaller as the numbers grew to where the difference would be infinitesimal, it wouldn't matter that the one number was 89543859489438590859034859430859358935 bigger than the other, it would be meaningless compared to the massive sum of infinity, so in the end, essentially, they would be the same number.
I'm feeling wicked blurrrry right now..

Sure you don't want to offer yourself that cookie? You seem to wear your credentials on your sleeve.

When someone argues in favor of something flat out false, I will not sit back and say "that's nice, keep being wrong..", you can do that, I certainly wont.

You clearly have not been here very long since half the shit posted here has *nothing* to do with raves. Infact, I haven't been to a rave in almost 2 years now. That makes me a tool? Right.

You make it seem like I have no life for starting this thread, yet here you are wasting your time arguing against me, telling me how much of a tool I am. I spend my time on ravewave as a brief break from my work, since I spend about 14 hours a day working infront of a computer and I occasionally need to avert my eyes from lines of code. If I'm a tool for that, fine. But you're just as bad since I'm sure you don't spend your whole day infront of a computer, so you actually take time out of your life to sit here and bitch.
I'm feeling you up right now..

Noone cares how many math courses you have taken, so me stating how many I've taken was bringing light to that fact.

As for not being able to sit back and let people think the wrong thing, haha, that's just fucking bullshit. If thats actually what you intended, it may be somewhat noble, but your attitude from the outset has been to make fun of everyone who doesn't know as much as you do.

Surely, with all of your intelligence and extra spare time at work, you could have come with a more optimistic way to pose the question, then how many of you will get it wrong?

Not only that, but you continued to patronize people for their responses:

And sure there is a lot of stuff on here that has nothing to do with raves, but at least its stuff that most people can relate to and may have something constructive to add to the discussion. What can one add to the discussion of limits? I'm pretty sure some old white guys figured everything out a couple of decades ago. I don't think you expected an invigorating discussion to follow your post, in fact you expected no one to even know the correct response. The point of your thread was to see how much smarter you are than all the people on here, and that is why you are a tool.

And as for spending the whole day in front of a computer, being a chemistry student at mcgill, where all of my math assignments are online, all of my lab reports are on a computer, all of my comp assignments are online, any information I need is online, all the lectures from every class is online everything for school is online, so yeah I do have a pretty good idea what it is to spend the whole day in front of the computer. But I still don't try to raise my self-esteem on the computer.

And here I thought programmers were cool.

And did I use enough quotes? Tool.
I'm feeling wicked blurrrry right now..

It's good when you confuse your own personal feelings for those of everyone else. Good job, and here you are berating me for being the egomaniacal tool. *claps*

The purpose of this thread was to see if Noah's theory was correct. I found it hard to believe that so many people would not know a core mathematical idea. How can you know division without knowing about divide by zero? I honestly believed that this was 100% common knowledge. I guess I am a tool for having a little more faith in people.

Also, the only person I was calling an idiot is Sophia.. and that's because she is an idiot. Talk to her for 30 seconds and you'll see it.

clarity i though was the goal especially when discussing something as abstract as this...

to be honest i don't think calculus at any level is the best tool to use on this type of a problem, number theory or mathematical philosophy might be better...

i think there actually may be an accepted proof that's been constructed that shows that 1/0 is infinity...but i can't remember who did it though... i think it was in the 80s but i can't remember for the life of me...
I'm feeling surly right now..
