sever once, for all, forever
who I am from what I show
from my youth it still remains
the only constant that I know
the world within this man
and how he seems outside-
two absolutes and opposites
that never will collide
and to the cause, a crucial prop:
a mask laced with a smile
time and practice thicken it
with layers of self-denial
since the day I met the world,
I grew from each mistake
until it formed full body armor
that only I can break
why hold out my heart
to have it crushed in vain?
attachment leads to love,
which leads right back to pain-
pain which finds me anywhere;
no matter where I hide
it seeks me out and detonates
to stretch the gap inside
once again I fade to black -
the state to which I’m prone
strange how something fills your life
then leaves you more alone
so then I say unto myself,
"Love again, I’ll never-
elude the bitter fate I will;
so long as I may sever"
