New Commodore Games Machine – Specs Here

" As we reported on the 6th March, the Commodore brand has been resurrected from the abyss and stamped on a range of PCs aimed at the gaming market. The company has made some specs available for the top-range kit, but prices won't be announced until later this week.

Before we detail the specs, however, SPOnG has got to fall to nostalgia for a moment and point out to the youngsters that at one time the Commodore name was associated with two of the greatest machines known to the planet: the C64 and the Amiga. The startling thing about these pieces of hardware was not only that they were technologically brilliant, priced sensibly and supported by a large community, but that it did not take ultra-billions of dollars to develop software (and not just games) for them.

As a side note, the Amiga was also, obviously, way better than the Atari ST.

Yes, we know its simply harking back to a more innocent time, when everything was trees, and you didn’t need an agent and a hair-stylist to be a video game maker. So, we’ll shut up and move onto the specs for the new PCs, which are to launch at CeBit in Germany’s famous Hanover this week.

Bala Keilman, CEO for Commodore Gaming, commented that his company, “…wanted to bring something new to the market, in the spirit of our Commodore heritage, and have worked hard to design a fully personalised product”.

Beware a little though, Bala, as that heritage not only features the C64 and Amiga but also has some dark and desperate times – including ownership by the QVC cable telly shopping network.

The stand-out factors of the new range is that, we’ll let Commodore tell you, “…a revolutionary painting process, (which means that) the exterior of the Commodore Gaming PC becomes an open and inviting canvas just waiting to be experimented with. Fans and artists alike are requested to present their creative works to become the next limited edition C=kin.

“This focus on design and personalisation can even be seen in the small details: two multicoloured LED lights inside the fans can be independently controlled to change or enhance the mood with an ambient glow. Meanwhile, a new Ice Cube cooling system provides extreme levels of cooling, reducing the core temperature by up to seven degrees and ensuring optimum efficiency.”

There are two flavours of Commodore Gaming PC: the entry level Cg and the more ‘extreme’ Cgs, Cgx and Cxx variations.

As we go live with the story, only the specs for the Cxx are available.

Commodore Cxx:

Intel® Core™2 Extreme quad-core processor QX6700, 2.66 8M Cache

Well, it depends on what you're looking for. I'm a DSL, G-star kinda guy, so fortunately, for me, there's a couple of good stores downtown.

Any pics of what your gf made for you ??? Curious !

Hypothetical situation.

If you were forced at gunpoint, by a friend turned maniac zoophile, to choose an animal to have sex with... any animal ( except humans )...

Which one would you choose ???

I would choose a dolphin. They're smart and I figure they'd know how to give a good shine.

What would be your pick ???

Aritmetik for G-star, DSL and Energie... but it's kind of expensive. 200 for a t-shirt WTF. But still, in my opinion G-star jeans are hard to beat... fuckin quality !

I saw some new DSL t-shirts yesterday and they are sick ! Cheap too.

Where do you go shopping ???

Spill the beans !

I have a few comments.

1. The suit versus the artist. This classic and rigid opposition is problematic, and quite funny at the same time : people with desk jobs ( they wear boring gray suits and ties, they love doing sudokus in the metro and their idea of high-brow culture is loft story and star academy ) versus " the artist ". Or in other words, the musical " institution " - evil incarnate - versus the musician ( always the good guy ), capitalist society / capitalist rationality versus the sublime martyr of the arts, which of course are necesarily " irrationnal ".

2. No one ever forced an artist to sell his or her soul to the music industry. Well, ok, there are notable exceptions.

3. Today, artists have more options : deal with majors, or do everything themselves, or deal with net labels, etc. But still, some artists choose to deal exclusively with majors : why ?

4. Is it RIGHT for people with desk jobs to make money from artist's creations ? With the artis's consent, yes.

3. " What kind of world do we live in when someone can profit from something they had no hand in ? " When shopping, I wouldn't be able to buy anything if I kept asking myself this question.

4. Making music available for free eventually leads to the aesthetic devaluation of music ( I believe that's what Theodor W. Adorno called " Entkunstung ", or desesthetisation of the arts ).

5. Here is an unpopular opinion I champion : I think the music industry / the paradigm of the major labels is needed. Think of the music industry as an integrated system. The underground ( what they call " La marge / la frange " in french ) defines itself in opposition ( pretty much like linguistic signs define themselves in opposition to one another ) to the paradigm of the major labels. Therefore, if they were to disappear, how would the underground define itself ? The term speaks for itself : Underground. it is a spatial metaphor, we are " under " something, and that something happens to be the paradigm of the major labels.

Starting with SEXY SUDOKU ( PC ).

Sexy Sudoku attempts to liven up the dull organising-numbers-for-businessmen-riding-the-metro quiz by including photos of naked women.

About once every six months we ask someone to explain the rules of Sudoku. Then we forget again. It's something like " all the numbers have to add up to 12 " or maybe " make all the boxes add up to the same number ".

The rules of Sudoku are something we will never need to know so we don't bother remembering. Like maths or what girls like to talk about.

You get to see more naked women for solving puzzles without clues. What the maker has done is taken an existing thing, then added a clever incentive system.

The nudity is quite nude. They are naked, akimbo in some photos, but not holding themselves open or having a bit of someone else going in them. It is the sort of nudity that was considered RED HOT before the internet, but now is acceptable on children's TV.

Minna-san no okage sama desu ! ( Neo-geo console )

Umm... Yes. How do I even begin ?

I've tried playing this game for a few hours, and I've tried to gather some information. I'm not sure about much, but here is what little I am sure about:

. This game is about Mahjong.

. One of the characters has a permanent 5 o'clock shadow, seems to be a playboy, yet has a really odd penchant for fans.

. The other is either a really ugly man dressed in drag as a Japanese schoolgirl or the single ugliest woman the world has ever known. Or maybe its some kind of monster...

. There is some kind of TV Show element to the game, whether this is based on an actual Japanese TV show is unknown. If it is, God save us all !

I've never seen such horribly ugly people in a video game before. The scary thing is that the artist tried to make them this ugly ! The back of the box had a few scantily clad women on the back, but I couldn't find them. Instead I played an unintelligible game of mahjong across from the ugliest character I've ever seen ( all the while he was yelling at me in Japanese ) - quite an experience I must say... Just not the one I had envisioned. Especially the skull on the continue countdown - where did that come from ? On the back of the box there's a picture of one of my opponents in a deceased-angel form! How serious are they about this in Japan ??? -Is it a blood sport!?!
