From watching my old roomie in Florida design flyers for a living, a lot of what you said is true. And his general rule of thumb, logos go on the back. Logos on the front distract from the venus/show concept/main thing your trying to get across.

The problem with Avatar, much like the Quake/Doom series of games on the PC platform. They're not so much movies/games, as tech demos of OMG NEW SHININESS!!! While the script itself is safe hollywood material. The real win is the actually technology. They put actors/acting back into CG. That's I think the huge win.
