No you don't have to re-record... its all relative after the initial process. Anyway...As I said before.. I can see where this is going.. aaaaaaaaaaaaaand Im out. peace. Update » Br34th3 wrote on Fri Apr 18, 2008 @ 3:25pm deadfunk.. afterthough: I think I understand your confusion. This process isnt to correct the key of all your songs so they all mix together... Its a simple process to know which songs will fit together harmonically.. It doesnt matter afterwards that the key changes when you up-pitch because the key of the next tune will be changed in parallel relation to that key when set to the appropriate bpm. Example: A song that is in B at 130 bpm set to 132 bpm will be in B plus a bit.. not yet C, this we understand. But another song that was initially 135 bpm but once down pitched to 130 pbm and found to be in B aswell pitched to 132 bpm like the first song.. will have the same relative uppitch as the first (B plus a bit) hence harmonic. This theory extends to all compatable harmonic keys, hence the use of the guide wheel. Anyways.. If you still dont get it there isnt much more I can do for ya.. think about it.. think think about it :P -peace |

with a better mix you might be onto something here... I think you could easily shorten it a bit, it might have a tad more impact. |

deadfunk: noone said you had to re-record your tracks at a static bpm... simply take note of the key that its in at the static bpm. |

I find the travel too long on the volume faders, and I cant stand the fact that its cluttered with bells and whistles to the point I can hardly get my fingers between the knobs for an adjustment without fucking something else up if I'm not paying super close attention, IMO its a mixer for precious fairy djs with girlie fingers. the hardware is rock solid tho. |

screwhead no it doesnt.. not if they werent in a harmonically compatible key to begin with. anyways Im out.. I can see where all this is going.. peace yallz. |

Yeah.. those keylock options are sketchy, Im not a fan. I am curious about the harmony effect send on the djm 800 mixer tho. It wont automatically correct your key but if you have a bit of an ear, from what I understand you can use it to "tune" your incoming track in cue mode which to me sounds a bit less labour intensive. Update » Br34th3 wrote on Tue Apr 15, 2008 @ 3:54pm deadfunk your right.. but once you know the key of your tune at a fixed bpm and that the two keys are harmonically compatible.. the rest doesnt matter. Its not about whether its in C or E after pitching up or down.. but that they were harmonically balanced based on a fixed bpm |
» Br34th3 replied on Tue Apr 15, 2008 @ 3:17pm. Posted in Fueling the war on harmonic mixing.... |
theres a few free apps out there that will tell you the key of your tune... this app doesnt solve the fundamental bpm problem tho. Example: A tune at 130 bpm in B at 0% on the pitch slider will not be in B anymore when its pitched up to beatmatch with a 135bpm tune thats in B at 0% on the pitch slider. So knowing the key of your tune v.s. the key of another doesnt mean shit if theyre not exactly the same bpm to begin with and from what I can tell.. this app does absolutely nothing other than simply tell you the key of your song at its current bpm... Endos method has more potential based on his first step of selecting a common bpm for all your tunes and taking the key reading from that point.. then this app could come in handy.. or any of the other free key apps available online.. but simply knowing the key of your tunes without considering bpm is utterly pointless. |

Its usually a long weekend and most people have Monday off to recouperate... Ive noticed alot of the younger student-esque crowd work Saturday shifts aswell... my vote goes to Saturday night even though theres usually more stuff going on in town on a Saturday "competition" wise.. Pimp that shit, and pimp it HARD!! :P |
