In my experience none of the rockets were up to par. If you want a pair of moniters for under 500$ I think Berhinger Truth moniters were supposed to be pretty tight. One thing with moniters though, I think it's a better idea to save up your money and buy something you really like. It's like buying a ferrari and getting super cheap tires. Your moniters are what allow you to hear what your doing.
From what I remember about KRK there was something I really didn't like about the V 8's. I think it had something to do with the bass. Mind you alot of people use them and get good results.
It really is a piss off, I actually made an effort to do it properly once I saw regular embed didn't work. I actually made the effort to search the boards to find out how to do it and then I found this: [ www.rave.ca ]
And I did it the god damned way he said to do it... I think I'm gonna give it another go...

And quick question, Host why are you wearing a bra in your avatar?
I think I'm going to take a small tolerance break actually... I've been smoking waaaaayyyy too much lately... with all this rainy wheather it's like the only thing to do.
I don't think you'd puke shit, I think your large intestine would eventually get clogged up with shit, not allowing your body to absorb minerals properly and you'd most probably die from your own shit.
The problem I find with smaller moniters is that there not too good with low frequencies. You get something where all the bass comes out as one generic note.
I think I listened to every single god-damned moniter that exists though when I was buying mine. What I sujjest you do is bring a cd with you to a music shop, and put a bunch of songs you know well on it. Songs that are produced very well, and some stuff that isn't produced so well but you know where the mistakes are. The general rule is pick the moniter that allows you to pick up on the production mistakes you knew about previously the best. Not the ones that sound the best.
Moniters are a really personal thing though, find the ones you like. There's no suck thing as the best when your buying this sort of shit.
Mind you if you ask me the Mackie HR824's were my clear favourite, fallowed closely by the genelec 8030 I think.
I say if you set up some dry-wall you could make the place work well accoustically. One trick I heard was to use 2 different thinknesses of dry-wall.
The cement in the basement would be horrible acoustically though, it would make the buying of good studio moniters pointless. If you want a quick fix though, hanging blankets everywhere does help alot. When I was doing those Rap recordings I basically put blankets everywhere and that worked pretty well.
But for now I think you could get away with some old blankets hung everywhere, your not really recording yet so your accoustics don't need to be amazing. The best materials for absorbing sounds are fabric like materials. Think the less dense and thicker the better. Cars have ridiculously good acoustics actually because of the material everywhere.
The K-hole is a very very very very weird place. It's not so much going numb, even though you do go numb, but it's about your mindset and the hallucinations that come with it.
It's really difficult to explain the thaught patterns and hallucinations that come with ketamine. For comparisent try imagining what compounding the effects of a moderate amount of alchohol and 5 grams of mushrooms are like. Contact with ht eoutside world is cut and your stuck exploring your mind. You need to be careful with this stuff.
