Yup, and we have always had that right in North America, thats nothing new. Choosing capitalism is also a choice, a choice that the people of North America made. Im not saying I agree with it, but it is the way our mentality is driven

Ever wonder why in North America we judge a person by how much money they make? If you dont make money you're not as good as the other guy whos got more money, so you have a nation of people trying to outdo each other to see who can consume the most and make the most money.

Its the rampant materialism thats killing us, not rich people

Not really, what are people gonna riot over? The fact they were stupid enough take out loans they could never pay back? Or the fact they ELECTED the government thats in place?

they didn't really elect the government that is in palce... I mean, the turn outs are horrible... when that few people actually vote, and the split is almost 50/50, that should be the best indication that there was no real choice

@ Masa... I get what your saying n Im down for a beer, and like I said before. I agree with nearly all the points occupy party is stating, but to say you represent a hope for a better distribution of wealth is one thing, but to actually devise a way to actually IMPLIMENT it is a whole other story. And that's the problem with the idiots on wall street.
So many fucking people are so eager to say this and say that about how fucked up everything is, but nobody is fucking smart enough to step up and suggest an alternative.
If they hate the fed being run by a private bank so much why dont the activists say they are not leaving until it gets audited by a firm in the private sector and takin' over by the government instead. Or follow in kenedy's footsteps to reinstate the greenback?
The thing is they are talking so much shit (true or not) that nobody knows what the hell they are fighting for.

THERE IS NO GOAL

ALL IT IS, IS A BUNCH OF FUCKING HIPPIES COMPLAINING

This isn't directed at you Masa, but let me put this in layman's terms for all the useless cunts out there calling me right wing for simply telling it like is...

Say you were at work doing a new job, and you boss comes up to you every 5 minutes screaming his ass off telling you that "you're doing it wrong" in way that is completely unconstructive because that's all he's fucking saying... "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG! YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!"
He might be right... You may be doing it wrong, but that doesn't really fix the problem does it? You still don't know how to do it right if he's not constuctively suggesting a better way to perform the task at hand.
He's not wrong to tell you it's the wrong way, but you'd probably think your boss is an idiot asshole for not explaining the RIGHT way.

And that's exactly what is happening on wall street.
Thousands of people screaming YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG regarding SOOO MANY DIFFERENT THING, but not one is suggesting a better way to do any of them.

@databoy...
Hell fucking yeah I'd fight against anybody trying to take anything that I busted my ass to obtain.
And FYI my political stance is firmly centered, as anybody should know it takes 2 wings to fly. I never said wall street had my back,so I'd appreciate it if you didn't try to put words in my mouth and if you think that the unions are not part of the problem, I highly urge you to educate yourself a little bit more on the matter as they have a completely different agenda than that of the protesters.

That being said... I'm not against the idea of a revolution, but occupy wallstreet needs to step their game up and figure out exactly what it is they are fighting for, or they won't make it past the first snow fall.

My 2cents...
now FUCK YOU!!

Yeah, yeah, we get it, people from the whole political spectrum are saying the protesters don't have something concrete. From Fox News to Chomsky and Klein... Way to formulate your own opinion

But it's also been said that nobody expected this grassroots movement to grow so big, so quick. Something's bound to come out of so many people assembling. Look at the Tea Party.

Oh and language, ya right-wing fuck

Anyone with eyes open knows that the gangsterism of Wall Street -- financial institutions generally -- has caused severe damage to the people of the United States (and the world). And should also know that it has been doing so increasingly for over 30 years, as their power in the economy has radically increased, and with it their political power. That has set in motion a vicious cycle that has concentrated immense wealth, and with it political power, in a tiny sector of the population, a fraction of 1%, while the rest increasingly become what is sometimes called "a precariat" -- seeking to survive in a precarious existence. They also carry out these ugly activities with almost complete impunity -- not only too big to fail, but also "too big to jail."

The courageous and honorable protests underway in Wall Street should serve to bring this calamity to public attention, and to lead to dedicated efforts to overcome it and set the society on a more healthy course.

Yes. These folks are right about corporate greed and what's happening to the little guy. 62.86% (171,497 votes)
No. They have no idea how jobs are created or how a free-enterprise system works. 34.25% (93,434 votes)

Bring this calamity to public attention ? Unless your sorry welfare ass is glued to reruns of Jerry Springer all day, if you're an honest working citizen, I don't think you need a gathering of thousands of people to "educate" you on how broken the system is. Just look at your paycheck or watch the godforsaken news. I'm not buying this whole "protesting to educate the masses about this important issue".

If it impacts more than 85% of mid and lower class people out there, like Murdock Rock says, we should be gathering to find a way to fix this instead of raping Youtube with "educational" videos of people chanting or yelling in protest.

Although we should appreciate and celebrate the flurry of additional precisions offered on why Occupy Wall Street exists, ultimately WE ALL KNOW shit's broken beyond belief so stop reiterating that and start finding feasible and constructive ways to resolve this.

You can all call me right wing too while you're at it but that's my 16¢ with 14¢ of imposed tax.

If you or Murdock Rock have a brilliant idea to fix shit, feel free to chime in, if its to degrade the peoples that are trying to start a movement of awareness about a serious problem with the system, well thats kinda lame.
Makes me wonder why you have such harsh words for peoples who are sticking up for something you claim to believe in, yet remain mute towards the artisans of so much hardship.

no time to comment on this discussion...

here is video from last night i believe at OWS, the word is that the police will be at Zucotti park in about 6 and half hours to evict the protesters before the friday trading starts, if you know anyone in NYC contact them now and tell them to get down there...

No one's offered any solutions so far but it hasn't stopped anyone from plastering the internet about it so I don't see why we shouldn't be allowed to discuss this in a neutral or potentially negative way as well. If you find having your beliefs challenged lame, well that's your prerogative.

Who did I degrade exactly ? I'm just saying that "raising awareness" is kinda of a moot point when there's already been extensive media coverage, considerable documentation, online resources and groups and even movies about our failed economic model, bailouts and so on so unless you've been living under a rock so the past 15 years, pretty much everyone in North America is either directly affected or at least heard of such issues.

Again, I don't see where you read harsh words on my part. I didn't call anyone a hippy, a hobo or a disillusioned hipster. Susceptible much ? Plus, AGAIN, stop saying we are against this movement, we AREN'T, we just can't see what appears to be thousands of apparently headless chickens cooing in a giant makeshift coop is going to achieve. Reversing decades of corruption isn't going to happen overnight so unless the occupiers storm the Stock Exchange, I'm not holding my breath for a full governmental restructure in the immediate.

If things change as a result of this, I'll be the first one to apologize and stick a foot or two in my mouth but that remains to be seen. Only time will tell.

Lech Walesa of Poland's Solidarity Movement in the 1980s is the latest major political figure to lend support for the Occupy Wall Street Movement. He's planning to come to NYC to speak in front of the group as soon as his schedule allows it.

Well I dont know too many "working" citizens than can afford to take a 3 week vacation camping out on wall street doing nothing. I'd reakon about 50% or more of those people are welfare cases easy, the other half think they're owed something.
