Wally, I think that what Raisin's comment is pointing at is that if you are trying to generalize a style of music with a negative point of view, you can easily end up with the conclusion that "it all sound the same". And it's kinda true in a sense. Most genres that become popular at one point end up with 90% of the production sounding too much like they were made by the same kids without imagination.

Pretty much what is happening with dubstep at the moment.

Loving the first track in your post Wally, btw.
I'm feeling the farce right now..

an unfortunate side-effect of the popularization of a style .. everyone wants in, not everyone is creative enough.

the only positive thing is that at least it proves that alot of people are interested in that style! XD
I'm feeling you up right now..

All I know is psy ppl do NOT take care of equipment well, it's just a plain fact

The three items here costs roughly 10,000$. I guess whoever took care of these decided they're worth less 2 e's 1 speed? Fuckin' burnouts.

All psytrancers should be put into camps and force fed their own poo. They must wear an upside down OM symbol on their arm. They will pay for their crimes against humanity !!

Their only crime, really, is listening to psytrance. Some would say that's also their punishment.

this is the kind of stuff I grew up with

the original version of this track is from 1994.. that's right it's as old as some of the posters on this board!

wow you think psychedelic trance music would improve in SEVENTEEN years. Nope, they just stepped it back to repetitive crap.

Wow the old stuff tears the new stuff apart..

I'd rather listen to this than some shit remix of MONEY FOR NOTHING..

SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD MUSIC.

I blame soft synths for the garbage now..

back in the day if you were serious about music it was many thousands of dollars of investment.. so only the most serious people got into it.
I'm feeling meow right now..

That Money for Nothing remix is still pretty old, but it's played to death, seriously.

I also used to think Goa was mind-blowing (AP, Hallucinogen, Orion). I thought a lot of psy was mind-blowing (GMS, Skazi, Tetraktys). But then people would yell in my ear at parties about paranoid crap and I would get straight up judged for looking too "breaks" for "psy" around 2002, which really got on my nerves. I would have hippies talking to me about how I should wear only organic everything and not eat meat. I had to deal with people basically talking to me like I needed to get my thetans cleaned out.

Vince, you were never so bad, you at least have a good sense of humour. All I can think about with They Live is that bit where Roddy Piper and the Junkyard Dog fight for ten minutes straight. And I personally think you have more of an unique approach. But I feel like you're one in a million. So maybe my rant generalized everything. I think for the sake of diplomacy I should retract a bit, but I still do feel creeped out being around people who all dress the same when I'm on acid. Maybe this all has to do with too many bad trips. I'm just getting tired of how much money is going into perpetuating psy fashion, all the required external signifiers to indicate that people fit in. I thought the content of the music and what was being sampled was intelligent when it was fresh, but I feel like the newer generations of psy are skipping a step and just referring to what they've vicariously picked up instead of spouting anything new, focused more on getting shitfaced than actually making spiritual progress.

This sort of scene staleness is what kills any style of music. Be forewarned. Those of you who are still passionate need to try to shake your programs. I know that psy is largely about mind expansion, but if you want to do that, you have to be more daring. If someone does that sometime soon and is able to write a psy track I can appreciate for its complexity and unpredictability, then maybe I will stop being antagonistic about it. But until then, fuck it. Let it die and come back in twenty years. Switch to, I dunno, folk or something.

P.S.: V-2.1... Zing. That was a pretty brilliant retort. I kind of got sonned. Happens to everyone at some point.
I'm feeling like a bag of dicks right now..

yes, yes, THIS :) :)
i try to shake things up. it's also partly the reason why i am untangling my dreads now. i've been told by some people in the psy that they look to me as an icon of a psy person... and i want to shake the stereotypes a bit.

i was trying to write about something like this earlier. psychedelic means mind expanding. it also means that we should not stick to one formula, but you know, actually create, expand our perceptions.

that said i also understand the purpose of dreads like antennas to concentrate your energy and find out who you are, away from the 'normal' world who will judge you. but people in the psy make the dreads all crocheted and pre-fabricated, already beautiful, somewhat superficial, because it's the image of the psy-trancer; the dreads, the clothes bought at psychonaut... and these days also the goth sexy looking clothes, graver style...

whatever if you think that really represents who you are, it's not my point to argue, and i think it's really beautiful to look at... but it's also sending out a message that may be mis-interpreted. there are always people who look up to us, no matter who we are... and this is how it all evolved anyways. i don't want to serve as a model for the other generations because of what i look like, but more because of who i am... i don't know where i'm going with this lol. it's an interesting subject... :)

oh yes and for the music... you got to dig to find the gems, like every other music style.

these days there are lots of producers that make goa... they come back to the roots and call it new-goa... i'm curious as to how this may evolve :) :) :)

The music has come A VERY LONG way if you ask me..
I was listening to all my old stuff .. and honestly .. it sounds like crap.
The musical element is still good. But it sounds like crap.
It would not shake a dancefloor compared to new production and mastering.

Also there are now many styles. If you like the old school sound like I do ..
Check out new tunes by old artists. It's my favorite. The wisdom is there.

Dick Treavor, Aphid Moon, Laughing Buddha, Tristan etc etc ..
They are all still pumping out sick music.. and it's better then ever.
