I'm feeling is going to fucking party tomoro right now..

Crazy Eddie was the promotor for the fridays at SONA for a while. Back then the rule was other people could flyer but not in front of the club.

At the time I was a flyer guy for Channel Productions. I was basically flyring all the cars in the parking lot and I was about to finish the last one. As soon as I put the flyer on the car the doors openn and Crazy Eddie comes out with his two thugs all pissed lol...They grabbed me and he threatened to break my legs if he ever saw me flyer there again O_o

People don't realize it, but back then you could literally get beat up for flying in the wrong places. It was no joke

thats a little extreme imo i mean i understand the competition for rolling promotions but cmon its a flyer, if the person who recieves it feels like attending they will attend... going out of the way to threaten and force people to stop promoting any event that isn't their own is a little extreme, and agreed. sounds like some sort of higher up illegal bs imo. there shouldnt be a "turf" when handing out flyers for any event... but this is the millenium .. ^^

it was a different time, flyers were the main source of promotion back then and competition was fierce

its much different now with the internet, sites like this, facebook, etc...promoting is much more diversified

most promotors don't even bother making a paper flyer anymore unless its a bigger event

Man i just found my first raveticket and fisrt rave flyer called: alpha 97! fisrt on i did and still got thoses two piece of histoiry( i mean for me hehehe) back in the day Kire, people where indeed investing in those flyers! some of them where real pieace of art, while other one, where simple as that: an adress, the line up, a few drawing ... simple as that!!!

But then the internet came and forum like [ rave.ca ] and [ ravemontreal.com ] where here, so the flyer became obsolete in a sense. wish the rave scene ould be like the good old day..less the bunch of asshole heheheh!!!

still remember one thing, the cream rave at the olimpique stadium a few year ago when moby was there, kick ass party until a dude decided to get rowdy with me because i just said hi to his girlfriend... anyway! different time/differnt age or whatever :P

but like the coin there is always to side to the said coin: one joyfull( or something like that) and the other one witch is the darkside of thing....

------

on a differnet subject, a few years ago( also) i tried to write a script about a bunch of people that where in a rave and some alien came to them to ask them if they could organise the biggest intergalactic party ever... sadly, i had the blank page syndrome after 50 or so page for the script...

later amigo and amigette!!!

Sure it's legal... Why do people keep saying it's not legal... People throw all night parties all the time. It's not legal to sell drugs, it is not legal to sell alcohol at a party without a permit, but it is legal to throw a party and sell water all night.

yeah, as long as there's no noise complaints, and that you have the right amount of emergency exits for the place, and that the fire inspector doesn't suddenly decide your venue "isn't safe", and as long as you don't break any zoning laws.. Hell if they really wanted to, they could bring a dB meter with them - in all of North America, it's illegal to play sound/music louder than a certain amount (I think it's 98dB) for extended periods of time.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

Whereever the government cant collect taxes, they'll be sure too crack down

In England for example it was discovered that alcohol compagnies put pressure on the government in the 90s to pass anti rave legislation because everyone was out in parties doing "e" and not spending money on booze.

People dont realize it but in England, raves were a huge deal, just from a cultural perpespective it was the biggest youth culture to emerge from the UK in the 90s.

It scared the shitpants out of the British government who actually passed a LAW banning music "wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats"

Here's the section of the act that pertains to raves:

-----------------------------------------------------

Sections 63, 64 & 65: Raves

A 'rave' is defined as a gathering of 100+ people, at which amplified music ('wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats'[!) is played which is likely to cause serious distress to the local community, in the open air and at night.

These sections give the police the power to order people to leave the land if they're believed to be preparing to hold a rave ( 2 or more people); waiting for a rave to start (10+); actually attending a rave (10+). Ignoring this direction, or returning to the land within the next week, are both offences, liable to 3 months' imprisonment and/or a £2,500 fine.

Section 65 lets any uniformed constable who believes a person is on their way to a rave within a 5-mile radius to stop them and direct them away from the area - failure to comply can lead to a maximum fine of £1000.

Sections 66 & 67: Seizure

The arrangements authorising police officers to enter land where a rave is in progress or anticipated. and which allow for the seizure, retention and charges for the confiscation of vehicles and sound equipment.

* Notice how a rave is defined as "2 or more people" listening to "wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats"

It meant they could essentially arrest you for listening to music in a car park with your girlfriend if it is techno enough.
