just found one of these on my terrasse!!! not cool. lol. Giant Water Bugs are *nasty* - they call em "Toe Biters" cuz they sometimes bite your feet if they're hanging over the side of the boat. those things are scary looking. I first saw one when I was a kid near here, playing on a stream in the woods. I was crossin the stream and I saw one sunning itself on a rock - looked much like this: 
needless to say I jumped back the way I came - lol. the thing was huge! and the pincers looked evil. they eat frogs for fucks sakes! *and* they can fly 
the only thing I've seen around here that compares for nastiness factor is a Raft Spider. when I was a kid up north on a lake, I was swimming to shore and clmbed up on this rock. This huge spider leapt through the air past my head into the water!! it's leg-span was pretty much the same size as my hand is right now. they are also called Fishing Spiders. they catch fish...

As for bugs, I respect the fact that when I'm outside, I'm on their turf. A colony of working ants is a wondrous thing to look at. On the flipside, my apartment is my turf and bugs need to stay the fuck out. |
