The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heilien

A pinnacle of sci fi literature. Probally used as a reference manual by Al Qeada terrorists.

Anything by William Gibson, but Neuromancer in particular

Any and all Chuck Palahniuk. Fight Club is a must, and I'd say follow it up by Survivor: A Novel and then Choke.

Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite, if you don't mind incestual gay vampires.

more of my favorite books are:
-Alice in Wonderland/ Through the looking glass
-Trainspotting/ Extacy/ The acid house/ Porno (sequal to trainspotting) all by Irvine Whelsh
-The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks (seriously FUCKED!!!)
-Mr.Vertigo , the New York Trilogy, and City of Lost Souls - by Paul Auster

they say if you read the incantations aloud from the book of the dead you invoke the said presence unwillingly.

Hyperion by Dan Simmons, the best sci-fi book EVER in my opinion.

The hyperion series (4 books) is a hell of a space opera. I read the whole series twice. (I rarely reread a fiction book)

If that kind of incantation were true, then i would have invoked namru and marduk....and throw a lil inanna in the mix.

marduk and innanna aren't dieties centralized to egypt. that's sumerian.

and again i bring up the story of the girl who invited kali into her life and look what happened to that... that was willing involvement.

Maybe you're right.

I suppose I should assume Hyperion won a HUGO because it was a terrible book.
