Tabeurn! BATZ, chill ta fucken moule man, offering intership for students is actually great to help them build their portfolios, its the same in every art related field, I did it too when I started doing makeup I did a LOT of free gigs just to get experience. I dont know what the fuss is??

If you're not interested, just dont reply. Jeez!

See my previous reply.. You can't use porn stuff on a normal portfolio.. maybe if you are interested in a career in design for porn only but I don't know anyone who is looking for that.

This 'something for nothing' attitude is pretty typical for Montreal. One of the reasons I want to leave this city.
I'm feeling meow right now..

That's bullshit.

I mean, what the fuck. A portfolio is something, but experience is another. You can have without the other. If you're not willing to skin a fish, you're not worth beeing a cook.

And yeah, there's a train station at Bonaventure.
I'm feeling ka-tet of one right now..

actually a portfolio is PRETTY FUCKING IMPORTANT if you do design or any other art.

You can get plenty of experience doing sites that you can show off later in your portfolio.. and if you are working for a company, you should get paid. You can do the freebies for friends.

usually you will fill your portefolio with stuff you did on your own, free time, for free

at least to start

then you fill with contract you made

but if you never had one, any kind of experience is worth showing in your portefolio

that's also why you always have more than one portefolio, and in each you aim a certain market

anyway, that's how me, and pretty much everyone from my school works

everything that is in our first portefolio was something we made in school, or for friends for free that was nonetheless worth it

of course, working for free sucks, even more in the art market, though, it's the best way to make a name, you just have to know when and where is the limit
I'm feeling kiss me, im shitface right now..

I agree to the importance of a portfolio.
But I mean, fuck, can't spit on experience. even if you end up just helping someone out.
I mean, if you're a out of school student, without a job, with time on your hands, it's pretty stupid to not wanna do a little gig for experience only.

And off the record, porn sites are the most lucrative type of websites out there.
giving a little can end up in future paying gigs if the starting company you help out eventually gets a budget later on.

agree on that, even more if you are currently doing nothing and wasting your time wondering why time is going so slow

if it was my case, and i would know anything about web design i would gladly do it

is there a way to deal maybe for 2 free dvds? :P i don't know, joey, maybe you will have more people willing to help

i know that my friends when they need my work they pay me in beers, always a perfect deal to me!

Making for free for a business who will use your work to make money sucks..

I have gone through this experience once and will never do it again (I don't need to now anyway because I have some decent clients on my CV). Note this is for sound work though.

I had a 'business' in Montreal who tries to get all their work done for free promising that 'you will become part of the team' when 'we' make it big. This said company has an office downtown, so obviously they are not broke. They wanted custom background music for their videos. I quoted them a very generous, low price. My friend who I was working with sent them a spec version, which they then used in all their videos and refused to pay us anything (NEVER, ever, send full quality versions of template designs, music, video whatever.. cripple it if it is a spec version). Only after threatening to sue did I get anything out of them, which was half the amount I asked for.. but I didn't have the time to pursue it.

I found out they always work this way, and a business grad even said they tried to get free management/business work this way.
Moral of the story: watch out for people promising big things for free work, unless they are friends you can trust.

Anyway if people want to work for free, do whatever you want. But you encourage this behaviour by going along with it, driving the quality/prices down in this city and making people leave for Toronto.

basically, reading up I realise I may come out as a bitch. But What I meant to say is that well, you were not approached for this, actually no one was approached. it was just a shout out, and I think it's funny that two "profesionnals" are right there bitching cuz someone asked for a favor.

You were not adressed, and if you're not interestested, just STFU instead on hindering someone's possibility for getting help.

I guess some profesionnals may be a little aggravated at their choice of carreer cuz well, they're not getting paying gigs. but that's no reason for them to shout out and get pissy cuz someone is asking for a favor.

First of all, its not a porn website, its sorta like a jobboom for the adult entertainment industry. My god, I was just trying to be nice and offer this intern gig to ppl on this forum before I contact schools.

DrTako, I dunno what ur talking about, its not "just in Montreal" that ppl look for interns, it was the same when I lived in London, L.A and Beijing. We're not making any money from our myspace ey, and we already have a graphic designer so its just doing the CSS/html. Arrête donc d'chialer pour rien manne, I had good intentions when I started this thread.

Sorry Daf, no dvds (I WISH) LOL we dont make/sell porn, we hookup aspiring porn stars with jobs!!

... quoted from wikipedia:

The Nobel Prize (Swedish: Nobelpriset) is an annual, international award originating in Sweden. The award was established in 1895 by the Swedish chemist Alfred Bernhard Nobel.

[1] It was first awarded for achievements in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, Peace and last but not least... Web Design.

[2] Although the Nobel Prize in Economics is not technically a Nobel Prize, the award for professional Web Designery is. It is regarded as the most prestigious award one can receive in that field.

[3] A recipient of the Nobel Prize (called a laureate) earns a gold medal.

[4] The amount of money awarded depends on how over emotional the Web Designer is acting at that time.

[5] The Nobel Prize has been criticised for not always choosing the best candidates, the lack of a Nobel Peace prize for Mahatma Gandhi, being one example. Although, Web Designers have really helped contribute to his cause.

just sayin
