 Coolness: 685580 | ...that's not exactly news.. they did the same thing with the original xbox, and have been doing that every chance they get since the 360 comes out (usually every 6 months or so)
Nintendo does the same thing with the Wii; legit new games won't run if they detect a chip, and new firmwares will brick your console if it detects a hack.. |

| Coolness: 685580 | For the Wii I think it's automatic.. if you pop in a game that requires a higher firmware than you have, it updates it automatically for you..
The 360 you have a choice, but all new games always require the latest firmware, which come with more detection methods, so yeah you can keep your old firmware, but then you can't play new legit games.. |
