"adult contemporary" sounds good... you write a paper for the marks, you do not write necessarily what you want to say... that his how business works...
I'm feeling nuclear right now..

uhmm, no, adult contemporary is pretty much anything that's old-skool rock and NOT modern/electronic..

[ en.wikipedia.org ]

Adult Contemporary is the stuff you hear on the Casey Casem countdown..
I'm feeling your norks right now..

Just the fact that you know who casey casem is invalidates your point!

regardless, I do agree with using terminology that they will understand. We must impress them with our candor if we want to succeed. You have beat them at their own game by their own rules, only then will we be free to act and believe free.

Jeepee, the few things I would change in your message is the tone... on one hand, it could sound too much like complaining or anger even. on the other hand, maybe they need to hear all sides of the story.

I wouldn't say not to send it as is.
I'm feeling hype right now..

Bonjour,

Merci !

Pierre Bouchard
Directeur
Direction des grands parcs et de la nature en ville

Now the question is do we keep fighting to do it on the mountain (we can keep fighting for what the people want, and keep getting signatures) or maybe we can move it to somewhere closer downtown like Old Montreal. Let me know what you guys think... I would not mind doing something in Old Montreal, but it would have to be somewhere close to downtown not somewhere super far away...

wow.. results!

if they're insistent on us not using mt.royal, fight for a different park, as long as it's easily accessible and nice.

it would actually be cool to have a spot for our selves, so we don't have to deal with 'tourists' and wannabe-hippies, and they won't have to deal with us :p

good job noah + ppl who also wrote to the city... if writing letters and playing the bureaucracy game gets the job done, then by golly, go go go!
I'm feeling you up right now..

We should continue to write those letters (everyone who has not yet)... It's not over until we have a place to do stuff in and as Nathan said, a place which is easily accessible from the downtown core...

Letter from my dad...

------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr. Snyder,

With all due respect,

I have read your rebuttal to my son (Noah Gitelman) as to why you (your committee) do not feel that he should have the right to hold his event at the gazebo at Mount Royal on Sundays.

It is beyond my understanding how a few concerned citizens who would like to provide “Free” entertainment without asking for any help of any kind from the city should be blocked from doing so. In these tough financial times that we are in when many people find themselves not being able to afford to go to entertainment venues, you are given the opportunity by a local to offer free entertainment. To my astonishment you find some reason to give these people a hard time.

I cannot for the life of me understand the logic for this refusal. There is obviously a demand for the free service based on the signatures on the petition. Are those peoples voices worth anything to you? Is there an apprehension about the music or the youth that may show up there? Is there a fear about refuse that may appear? I just don’t get it. I have attended personally one of the events held at the gazebo and what I saw were people of all ages both locals and tourists as well as visitors from other parts of the city sitting around having a good time enjoying the music on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone from all age groups were having a great time for free.

I believe I read in one of your responses back to my son.

“The mountain is one of the crown jewels of the city and the city has a responsibility to protect it. I know that this doesn’t please you but that’s just how it is.”

I have trouble believing you actually wrote this. First of all no one denies that the mountain is one of the “crown jewels of the city” and what does the event we are talking about have to do with this. Are you implying that the event will somehow damage that reputation. What protection are you talking about. Protect the park from the music or the people listening to it. Do I read between the lines that this happening as far as “you” are concerned is associated with some sort of negative experience. Have you or anyone of your group ever attended one of my sons event? Maybe your group should show up to one and see for yourself before passing judgment. Also I would like to respond to your ending comment “but that’s just how it is”. I was not aware that dogma has a place in politics in our society. We are in Canada or specifically in Quebec not Russia.

Mr. Snyder, I have been going to Mount Royal for over 55 years. It has always been a sanctuary for my grandparents, my parents, myself and now my son. I see nothing that Noah is trying to do that will hinder that experience for anyone. If anything it will enhance it for many.

Do not fear to do the right thing!

Jack Gitelman

Noah, I know you aren't anywhere near stupid but make sure you consider one thing :

If you go with an alternate venue/park, make sure it's NOT close to other buildings.

The gazebo is the best choice since its surroundings is devoid of any residential buildings, hence you aren't exactly bothering nearby residents unless you have a 20000 watts sound system.

The same might not be true of another much smaller park encased in duplexes or stores on all four sides and have to deal with snobbish residents angry at the "crazy electronic music" blaring during their relaxing backyard sunday afternoon tea or store owners displeased with the noise level "scaring our patrons off".
