Letter to THE CITY:

marc.snyder@ville.montreal.qc.ca
lfecteau@ville.montreal.qc.ca
christyneouellet@ville.montreal.qc.ca
hfotopulos@ville.montreal.qc.ca
jbohemier@ville.montreal.qc.ca

I just wanted to let you all know about the HUGE sound system which is
20x larger then our small speakers which was setup at the Gazebo
today. As you know one of the reasons I do not want to do Sundays in
the Park in the east is because the Plateau is my home. Just like the
people at the Gazebo today were catering to their community (French
Language), I think we should have the right to do the same thing. The
Gazebo is empty on the weekends and I think by us doing something
there it gives back to the community and it seems the ONLY people who
don't want us to be doing anything is you guys. Every time I see other
events on the mountain at the Gazebo it really bothers me since you
don't allow us to do our event there, but it seems like you allow
everyone else to do them.

Please look at the photos. I would like you people to reconsider
allowing us to do our Sundays in the Park at the Gazebo. You have
already seen photos of our TINY sound system (which is impossible for
people to hear from far away). If other people can do it 20x larger
then us, there is no reason we should not be able to either. We have
less people, we make less noise, we are good people and I think we are
not being treated fairly.

Please get back to me on what you think of the situation. I find it
disgusting that people would like to do things for the community and
the city does not want it to happen. We have tried everything and keep
getting rejected. There must be a way for us to have our Sundays in
the Park as for sure we make way way way less noise then most of these
other things. Where are our rights, there is space on the mountain for
us and it sucks that we can't do anything. Would it work out better if
I become a Political Candidate for this area? Would I be allowed to
throw Political things in parks? If that is the only way for us to do
stuff then please let me know. I want to do this, please find a way or
a space for our thing to happen.

seriously! i just saw a brief clip on the news about today's 'celebrations' and saw the Gazebo in the vid, i thought: "WTF? are they using the gazebo?" ... i was a little pissed off...

It's great that you brought it to their attention. Let them know that we notice these things...

I suggest that other people also write letters to those e-mail addresses you posted... keep your letters fairly polite/diplomatic and smart though ;)

Montreal has this terrible streak of abusing the 'rules' on music events when it's to their advantage, and rejecting projects that involve non-pop electronic music are not directly affiliated with the city. It's hypocritical, and it's getting really irritating.

Don't forget: Mayor Tremblay is up for re-election soon, now is the time to act.
I'm feeling you up right now..

Hi Noah,

The fact that this event is permitted has nothing to do with language, nor
with politics. I’m sure you know that.

What you were told was that your event wasn’t acceptable because:
a) there’s a moratorium on new events on the mountain;
b) your event is an ongoing weekly event.

This event was accepted a number of years ago (before the moratorium was in
place) and is a yearly event (not weekly).

The mountain is one of the crown jewels of the city and the city has a
responsibility to protect it. I know that this doesn’t please you but
that’s just how it is.

Regards.

Protect it from people being on it? People will already be on it from
the tams, why can't we be part of the tams (we already feel we are
part of the tams and are contributing to the tams). Isn't there an
alternate location. Since Jarry and Promenade were both rejected by
the city, there must be a location somewhere close to where I live
where we can do our event. In a city the size of Montreal, can you not
find a place for us to do our event?

Where would I go to fight this. Would the city council be one of the
places. It seems that people all over the city want our event to
happen as we have collected already thousands of signatures from
people who would like the event to happen. It's obvious people want
it. The ONLY people who don't is you guys. So let me know some
alternatives... I'm open to them. I'd just like to do something for MY
community, not the east community. We do not make a lot of noise
(compared to all these other people as you see from the pics), we do not
have millions of people, we do not need a huge space. We just want to do
something. Why is it so hard for people to do things in this city
especially when we are willing to do them for FREE.

It's time for change. Let me know how to make change happen.

Feel free to send a nice (not mean, it won't do any good) email to those 5 people in the list (first post) telling the city why you think that we should be able to continue with the music at the gazebo and if they don't want it there, then for them to give us another space to use. The more people the better I guess. I will start a little protest in front of the city building at some point to get signatures and such. Nothing better to do...
