i thought tiesto was popular 'cause he sold out, not 'cause of his skills. he may be talented, but being a talented DJ these days is like being a guitarist in a generic rock band. you might be good, but i'm not impressed.

does he scratch? can he beatmatch D'n'B? can he mix blindfolded?
I'm feeling you up right now..

I can scratch and beat-match DnB blind drunk! :P (happened at a new years party 4-5 years ago.. I couldn't even stand, I had to lean on the left wall or the sofa on my right depending on what deck I was mixing on :P)

see, you're already better than tiesto Fred :P ...i practice blindfolded sometimes...

w/ Cutter we used to set up the mixer in funky ways to practice under bizarre circumstances (when will i ever need to mix with my feet?) but, hey, you never know, and it has come in handy, like practicing with the channels inversed...

awesome! I once beat Street Fighter 2 on the SNES on easy using only my feet!

Mixing with the channels inverted is anoying as hell though, that's how the setup was in quebec when I'd played once, and a couple of times it happened that I turned down the right channel, but then took the needle off the right deck, which was playing through the left...

haha the 1 turntable vs 2 turntable on a coffee table (one playing with mixer inverted) was awsome.
Update » cutterhead wrote on Wed Feb 11, 2009 @ 3:31pm
we would also reverse or criss cross left and right depending on the setup, so the mixer would look like a mixup board (using a multitrack mono channels slides)
Update » cutterhead wrote on Wed Feb 11, 2009 @ 3:33pm
...in cased you would have to play drunk in a zerogravity environement where some alien species or garden gnomes would have messed up your wires .

Tiesto might be good if I were high on ghb or something. But probably not. Fame means nothing in the "rave" scene.

He tops lists because he is mainstream and that is what people know as a trance dj , average people would not know who kai tracid or yoji are for the reason that they are not famous. It does not mean that tiesto is better than them, it's that he's somehow gained enough fame with his basic djing skills that he is a name that people know. I'm sure if he were not famous he wouldnt be anywhere near the top of any list.
I'm feeling happy right now..

example of good trance is rabit in the moon or mogwai.

FSOL , future sound of london is consided big beat for some but really its ambiant / trance sometime.

fsol's fame vailed that fact. and their is muillions of diff flavor of music even of that style

Its not our fault that you have to be high to enjoy good music. I think you might have a drug addiction problem

QFT!!!

Whenever I hear the word "trance", Tiesto is the first person that comes to mind!!!

& Isn't he like the best trance dj in the whole world or something?

Well that fucking clears that up then. Look, if the Tiesto is not only the most popular DJ, but his technical style is appreciated by some of the best DJs on thie board (Like Bliss), then he must be a great trance DJ.

So, msshlee, deadfunk, cutterhead...all is forgiven. Im too PLUR to demand an appology or anything. Water under the bridge...

If you guys ever want to hear some great tiesto mixes, I recommend his In Search of Sunrise series. 4, 5 and 6 were probably among his best. Also, feel free to pm me if you want the names of some other trance DJs...I would love to help you out.

that's pretty condescending there mister PlurMinister :P

In Search Of Sunrise? I think i'll be in search of a less cheesy mix...and the way Bliss formulated his sentence, i think he meant that he has heard that tiesto is the best trance dj, not that he actually thinks it himself.

Now, don't get your panties in a knot just 'cause Tiesto isn't praised and honored on this forum...if he's considered #1, he doesn't need our support. And until i see him mix blindfolded, i remain unimpressed ;)
I'm feeling you up right now..

you know, that could be a pretty entertaining idea.. Do like, a weird tag-set.. One DJ blindfolded mixing, the other one selecting the tunes and handing them to the DJ.. and then they swap places..

haha...yeah, but then it's makes it easier for them. i say they learn brail first, then tag all their plates with it.

in fact it would be even funnier if they were both blindfolded...bumping into each other and shit...lol

have it be like a DJ contest, then; you pick tunes from YOUR bag that the blindfolded DJ has to play!
