Theyre called english muffins, so aren't they a muffin by definition. Perhaps one needs to broaden their classification of what they consider a muffin.

My dads Scottish, my moms English, I'm born in Canada but have both citizenships

The Scots and the English don't really like each other

Mainly cause the English fucked the Scots over for a long time

Whats goes in Scotland, with language issues and referendums, is actually very similar to what goes in Quebec

there is no such thing as "British English". people in the United Kingdom speak a variety of dialects of the English language

"British" identity is pretty nebulous. I've grown up all my life around Scottish, Welsh and English ex-pats, and I can't remember one time I heard them refer to themselves as British. All of them are very proud of their ethnicity.

Irish people are not British, so over there, you will hear some Irish people refer disparagingly to "the Brits" - usually in reference to the United Kingdom government and army

However, many Protestants in Northern Ireland - who are descended from Scottish settlers - DO consider themselves British, and very militantly so... but I don't think that an Englishman in London would feel much in common with them.

it's complicated.

I was not stating british english as being a different sort of the language merely saying that is what is used to refer to british people

To understand the word British:

Great Britain includes England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland

The people that come from Great Britain are British

However most people from there just refer to themselves as "English" "Welsh" "Scottish" or "Irish"
