Quebec is not a country, it is a province of a much larger country. without canada, quebec's economy would disintegrate and we'd all be on welfare.

+ 1 Neoform. And Screwhead.

Do I believe Quebec has the resources to be on its own ? Yes. Do I believe it's a feasible idea. Sure. Do I believe we have a solid provincial financial infrastructure to run the show ? Erm, not really no. I mean, we can barely make ends meet with federal help, what's it going to be if we lose that ? I can assure you, your taxes will go up more than dramatically.

and thanks to the bloc, no majority gvt this time again

Exactly. And last i checked, you guys all chose quebec to live in. if you want to rant about all your "canada" pride, move to alberta and become almost as american as you can. if not, stop being a hypocrite and vote for your province's federal party and prevent all those other bums from sending OUR money to THEIR country !!!

No, i was born here. I chose to stay because this is where my life is at this moment, in quebec, Canada. I live in Canada. I vote for what i believe is best for Canada, hence a FEDERAL election. Voting for bloc to try and stop a conservative majority is like severing a finger to deal with a hang nail. Any opinion you have on politics is immidiately out the window by voting bloc, as it shows you care nothing for the country... wait shouldn't you be leaving then? And no, that doesn't mean you take the province with you, as its a part of Canada.
I'm feeling gettin more ink soon right now..

Well, we aren't debating salaries for politicians, we are debating whether or not the system actually functions and if voting actually makes a difference. Using sports as a comparisson, which is valid in the sense that both government and organized sports are forms of business, but they are very different forms of business. Fans don't play the same kinda of decision making roles that voters do politics, they don't vote on anything... well maybe online polling on fav. players or teams, or who will win etc...

And as far as conecpt of keeping people sheepishly watching tv, I dont buy into that. Its ok to watch a sports game a couple of times a week, I follow hockey avidly, infact I play ice hockey aswell, and I still have time to teach myself new computer tricks, read several major publications(national post, montreal gazette, new scientist, bbc, cbc, cnn, thank you very mrs.palin)... as well as find time to spin, remix and produce, all while working 40-45hrs a week, not to mention shows etc... anyways, all that to say that I do hell of a lot more than just watch sports, and those this might be surprising, so do most sports fans.

I think the concept of keeping people happy with sporting events dates back to ancient rome, but I highly doubt that constitutes the same numbers today. Infact, Im pretty sure that less people watch sports than you think, not to mention what about all those people that don't like sports?

Ufot-you can only complain about losing when you play

Any vote other than conservative takes away their seats... all the bloc is doing is taking votes from parties that actually have a chance to get in power. I cant believe Bloc got more votes than NDP... That means most quebeckers still havent got a friggin clue.

If those votes woulda gone to Layton we would have a strong socialist opposition in a minority conservative government.

Any socialist in Quebec voting for the bloc is just completely blind IMO. So many people systematically vote Bloc just cuz "Chu un separatiste! Les anglais comprennent pas!" etc... Duceppe will never get Quebec to separate, what he can do is whine and whine and whine and make us look like a bunch of retards who think they are special...

Anyways, I totally cant stand the Bloc and hope the party just dies off.

Only reason I would ever want to separate is because of the conservative government and know that Duceppe is NOT the man who can take us there.

That's only if you actually buy into the BS that voting accomplishes anything, which I do not. Voting makes you feel good, feel like you've made a difference, but really it's just a feeling, like how you feel good yelling at the coach/players of your favorite team; you've accomplished nothing, but it's strangely relaxing and pleasing to do.

And as far as conecpt of keeping people sheepishly watching tv, I dont buy into that. Reality TV? Entertainment Tonight? Vice Magazine? Fashion Television? 50 billion blogs telling you what colour Paris Hilton's panties are right now?

Go listen to the first track of the mix I did for your show.. We live in an era of diversion. We don't actually affect anything, and our attention is constantly pulled away with things to entertain us so that we're docile and complacent to the world around us.

It doesn't work for EVERYBODY, but unfortunately, it works for most, and that's what counts. Most people believe that voting works, just like most people believe in god and religion. Those that actually realise the crock of shit that's put before their eyes are few and far between.

I dunno, Im an eternal optimist Fred, I will always chose to look at the brighter side of things. I also try my darndest not to lump mass amounts of people into categories, I try and give them some credit, even if it isnt a true picture of reality, I would like to think my fellow humans share some common ground with me. I chose to believe that voting does make a difference... further more, I feel I earn the right to complain about the outcome or the device of voting itself, because I vote.

Im not disputing the fact that we do live in a time of mass diversion, but I think buying into the whole "everybody is just a use tool due to media control" ideology is about as easy as denying its possible existance. Personally I think a middle ground is a healthy choice, life can never be so black and white...

What makes the bloc so strong is the possibility to have 20% of the seats with 8% of the votes next to NDP who has like 23% of the votes but 10% of the seats.

We do not live in a Proportionnal system (I wish we would),We live in a system where over-representation is power. Voting bloc stays the less worse choice for quebecers.

That's cool fred, you can simply not vote if you want. had you voted, you would have noticed that ballot had about 20 different parties to choose from. you think voting makes no difference, well that because you see to it, that no difference is ever made by sitting on your ass and not voting.

There is a huge difference between the conservatives, ndp, liberals and green. If you think they're all the same, you clearly don't pay attention.

I know, I was only joking, though seriously, my nuts are not religious at all, though a number of amazing women have gotten on their knees for them (ha!)... anyways, I think you're being kinda hyper-critical of something you supposedly have no interest in... if you want to prove they don't work, give us some concrete facts, or don't and just let us assume, as you have, that voting doesnt work...
