My english sounded like crap at first, like everyone else, so did my Japanese, but that shouldnt stop you from trying! You'll feel much more satisfied if you try really hard. Who cares if people laugh at your accent. They,re the losers. :) |

 Coolness: 77265 | I am an english born Quebec City-er. I speak very flutently both languages, but yes, I prefer speaking english. Because I express myself better. I spent my entire childhood defending my language in the midst of stubborn hardcore quebecers telling me to go back to my province...but yet again, i still dont hate the language, nor the people. I just think its an old debate that needs to be put to rest. Like Joey said, broaden your horizons people ! I used to just sit theyre and laugh at these people who were telling my to go back to Ontario, because they had no idea I spoke french. And then again, who had the better opporitunity here...me and my two languages, or them with theyre st jean french that nobody understands anyway :P |

 Coolness: 685565 | Yeah, go figgure, I had that problem, too, but with french people, also. My mother was born here, but my dad and my grandparents on both sides were born/raised in europe (belgium, mostly), and it's from them that I learned to speak french. So whenever I was at school, I'd get beat up and made fun of by everyone for being a "calise d'immigrant, r'tourne dans ton pays!".
It was even worse with french teachers, because I'd spend most of the class correcting them and their mistakes. Now, the way I speak french (and to a degree english) is that my accent adapts to whatever the person I'm talking to is using. If I'm around my grandparents and my parents, I speak real french, if I speak with quebecers, I speak quebec french, if I speak to people with any kind of accent, I tend to assimilate it and speak in a way that's easier for them to understand. But that skill developed mostly as a survival mechanism to stop getting beaten up by intolerant frenchies who insist that everyone speak THEIR french or get the fuck out. |

Priceless. |
