It's all a matter of oppinion, then, isn't it? There are people who hold tiesto's performances to be way more legendary than anything that they could do, just like there are some that believe that lenny dee and the horrorist are a million times better than anything tiesto could ever imagine. With that cartoon, you just change some names around and the style of music, and it can apply to ANY style of electronic music.

The common problem is that people equate being famous with being a tallentless sellout. Metallica were only good before The Black Album, Marilyn Manson's only "good" album is Portrait of an American Family (before he became a superstar), etc..

When it comes to music, there's no "wrong" answer, only diffrent tastes and oppinions.

Were the flight/hotel/food/transportation to be covered by the promoter, would Lenny Dee, Neophyte, The Horrorist, Scott Brown, Dr. Macabre, etc.. do a set for the same price a local DJ would get paied for spinning the same music?

But the NAME is still what's important to most people in ANY scene, and that's the point I'm trying to make. Just as there are lots of trancetards who will only go to a party if tiesto is playing, there are people who wouldn't go to a hardcore party if they didn't see a major name on the flyer. And really, wether you're spinning trance, hardcore, dnb, acid, house, hiphop, etc., unless you're there with your laptop/equipment making/editing the songs live, you're just an over-glorified jukebox, and ANY skilled DJ (who's been mixing longer than milas and has mastered the art of not trainwrecking) could mix given access to the same records/CDs that the big-names play.

I wasn't saying that if THEY would pay for their stuff, I'm saying, if it doesn't cost them a penny to come here, not counting special favors for close friends, would ANY "big-name" DJ play for the 20-50$ the average no-name local DJ gets payed? Fuck NO! If I decide to throw a party with Lenny Dee as a headliner, could I get away with completely paying his flight/hotel/food/transportation, but only paying him 20-50$ for his actual performance?

Now why should anyone expect any diffrent from tiesto?

Meh, talent and song selection counts, on a personal basis at least. Name itself is not enough.

I've seen Tiesto once, way back in 2000 when I liked him as a producer and when I believed the hype around him being the world's best DJ... No memories whatsoever from his set.

Can't say the same from other DJs/acts I've seen, live or dj set, local or headliner.

i understand and agree with what you are saying, but not all big name dj's are egotisical.
Update » mtl_mtl wrote on Fri Jul 27, 2007 @ 1:41pm
regarding what big name dj's chose to charge - betty haze is right, it really depends. their prices are variable, depending on the day, the city, the size of the party, and their relationship with the promoter...but i think it's important to remember that most of the time, a DJ will charge what the market will bear as a price, and I think that's a fair thing to do considering that this is how they earn their living.

Problem is, that market tends to inflate with big name DJs, quite over what it should be worth ;)

i understand what ur saying but u do realise i hope that bones or dee (for example) have much more releases or experience than a dj who's mixing since the last 5 years???

i mean all the scene in mtl is based on elitisme and on how much you suck people balls! there's local dj who mix at each rave that i saw adv. ... when i have mtl friends who actualy are known in europe and have releases vynils on big label...

some of my mtl peeps have way much more experience and skills than the little newbie who play shit but is talking to everybody and is oh! so nice..

suckers scene

Walking around the nightclub
all the people make me sick.
Dancing and having a goodtime
oh there all just full of shit.

Yeah I have to slip myself something
there's nothing else to do.
I"m in a room of posers
and you know i'm looking at you!

She's in makeup ads
She's a beauty queen
she throws up on the floor.
He's an independant filmstar
but really just a faggit whore!

The princess of bolemia
dancing with the kind of queer
all there problems twisted together
I can't help but stop and stare!

All the people dance around look at all the fools.
All the people dance around look at all the fools.
All the people dance around look at all the fools.

The dj spins some records
he think he is a musician.
The bouncers think there tough guys
but they are just big and fat.
The bartender's a slut
and the barbacks are illegal.
It makes me really wonder
why do i fit in?
I'm feeling hitched right now..
