I agree - when stuff like that happens, it's up to the markets to normalize. I guess what usually happens is that bigger dollar DJ's will only play the largest parties in your area, the Cream and bal en blanc style events, and underground events have to start developing a new roster of acts they can book from. These new acts are usually more boutique-style guys who are famous in a particular genre but don't have a huge crossover following.

Then of course, once you have paid to develop their careers with solid bookings and good publicity, they start to ask for too much money as well, and you have to let them go - it's a vicious cycle, hehe. but there are DJ's who have not fallen into this trap of pricing themselves out of steady work. Lenny Dee is a perfect example. Omar Santana is another.

anybody fucking complain when they go at daft punk and pay alot...would u pay the same amount of money to go see the garage band at the corner of the street? NON! i don't think sooo.

start to do it for fun and after do it for money yo.

betty, im sorry that your friends dont play here as ofthen as you want them too, but there are several things that can influence a promoter to book a dj or not, ball licking is one, i know ball licking is big in mtl,

im a new producer, myself, and i dont ball lick, you better get booked for your talent than for your big mouth, because whats left when everything is over?

the guy with talent, still has talent, but the other one doesnt have any promoters to suck

but the promoter want people in his party, so he book dj that people like, there are really good producers/dj here, but they arent known enough in montreal, so they are not booked. its sad, but its the way life works...

whats the point for a promoter to book alot of really good djs if nobody knows them?

im talking in general, i dont know who are your djs and the djs that you say have no talent and are allways booked...
I'm feeling promiscuous right now..

hahahaha house scene! yeah right... hahaha you don't know me i can tell.. you are fucking condescending saying i should evolve and shit. shut up

i was talking about techno and hardcore charts.. and i've been in alot of show backstage around the world. i'm friends with alot of producers who are honest even if they make good money. my husband already played at fucking mysteryland and thunderdome. i don't wanna be pretentious even if i sound like it now but: back off.
i think i know a little about the bizness...

and i love free rave party i think there is the real rave spirit. when you pay your djs locals or not and you ask for money at the door, that's for me a show.

but yeah everyone is entitled to different opinions..

ps: and i studied in cinema so i know what is a fucking bad american movie. and i don't do drugs. and i'm already prosper:i'm rich bitch.

like you said: peace

why in quebec people aren't doing that when everywhere in the world it's work like that??!

a 25 dollar "contract" with a local promoter isn't worth the paper it's written on. Who would spend time and money in court to prosecute over a 25 dollar contract? If you don't trust the local promoter to pay you, then a contract isn't going to change that. Just don't play the show if you don't trust the promoter.

repent tokyo, its not about going to court

its about promoters changing the line up w/o advising the djs, like 1 h in advance, paying them less than the amount discuted, having
bad gear and not telling dj to bring their needles in some case and ect

when your the dj and something like that happens, its your reputation who is ruined because you seem like a whining dj, when everything was planned in advance, and changed without even noticing you...

if you have a contract signed, you have proof that your not whining uselessly, and not ruining your reputation.

some of that happened to me, and i dont blame the promoters because they are my friends, but if someone i dont personally know books me, says ill play a 4, and get paied 100$, lets say

and once at the party you play at 10, and paied 20$, and there are no needles, no cdj, and he didnt even told you, you look like a jerk asking for more money, a better time slot, and not even equiped as a dj

there should be contracts on every aspects, not for the court aspect, but to make sure everything is ok and settled in cement.

several times i have been booked for parties where timeslots changed, or the gear was so bad that we had to re-wire the mixer to get it to work, during the set...and i have had contracts that were not respected. it still comes down to, what good is a signed contract if one of the parties chooses not to respect it? what do you do in that instance?

i dont know, but you can tell the other promoters/dj that its not your fault, and you have a proof, and this promoter will have less credibility as a promoter if you say it publicly, but its all your choice...

okay then why dont we start an i piss on tiesto voo doo thang, but maybe not!because i think he has cancer or something like that!
anyway i agree with u betty contracts r a must even with good frends
because promoters often seem to be doing you a favor!i hate clubs
but at least they always give me my do..
But at some partys i feel bad to ask 4 money when around 30 people
work 4 free(ex:space gathering)all week!
contracts often seem to handle nothing but as deadfunk said
they r proof that the promoter didnt deliver and he will maybe
have to manage his ethics if the non-payed dj vj s ...stick together!

exactly what i was gonna say. Sometimes it's so hard to know how to project your energy at a party...even if your dancing hard as hell...i still feel weird not dancing facing towards the DJ, even if he's boring as shit to watch. Having friends doesn't help, because you can't talk to them most of the time anyway, and when you're dancing you don't want to gaze into their eyes or anything. So VJs help the balance of power (All hail the TV!)...but somehow it still seems false.

oh dilema.

DJing is the most over-hyped profession in the world, you owl-sucking cyphers. *grin*
