i like how fractal is still improving, upgrading and trying to stay fresh, unfortunately 2 yrs ago or so (when there were parties almost every weekend), cops started busting them all, especially lofts and secret venues, they not only busted the jams, but brought ppl to court and stuff (massive fines $!)... so i wouldnt say its the promotors fault really, ppl just dont want to use/rent their spaces for jams much anymore...
I'm feeling switchin lanes right now..

i dunno...
i personally thought most of those loft partys around st.laurent were kinda ghetto...
not to mention they still go on every weekend if you keep yer ears peeled...
there is always gunna be new places to throw jams... and you will never know about them if you don't try to find them...
as far as venue originality... its the promoters who choose to pick out whats convienient not the venue owners.
as far as fractal...
saturdays jam was the first time i've been there for awhile.
and i'm acctually quite impressed with the improvements they made since the last time i was down there...
the sound sytem was much better than the last time i played there, where i was honestly kinda pissed off because i acctually had to drag down my own system to the venue out of the kindness of my heart so we could have monitoring in the booth and the promoters had to get a sound guy at the last minute to fix up the bandaid frankenstien system just so the party could go on with proper sound...
but like i said...
i'm impressed with the improvements they have made.
and montreal is EXTREMELY lucky to have a place like this at a time when so many great venues have already gone abust.
as far legality goes...
i wouldn't consider it 100% legal by any stretch of the imagination either.
which depending on how you look at... can also be considered part of the the fun :P
but there is definately some grey area there and as much fun as it is to party all night while smoking and drinking the good boys at the center are eventually going to have to tighten up the rules a bit if they want to keep it legit and free from the boys in blue that were nice enough not to shut down the last jam there.

my 2 cents on fractal.
respect!!

I'm feeling sober right now..

Look, there are good and bad:

Good : Friendly owner who cares about the rave scene
Good : It's an affordable venue, he doesn't bleed promoters
Good : Two LARGE rooms
Good : Beer

Bad : Kinda far away
Bad : OVERUSED.

Anyways, I love Fractale ... we used it three times for our parties before people got bored of it. However now I won't throw any more parties there for a long time because people are tired. That's just how it works ... people want something new. Perhaps if Fractale rented less and only to really big/good parties, they could get the excitement level back. But i don't run the place and i don't pretend to know the situation there. personally I think Fractale is doing pretty well for itself.

Long story short: If you don't like the place, don't go. If you don't go, then promoters will stop over renting it!
I'm feeling rancho relaxo right now..

once again... I dont think people would get bored of it if promoters dont make the place into something different every time....

apart from deco, everything in that place can be moved around (cept maybe the bars, coat check and toilets), the rooms can be divided with curtains, stages can be put in a different place.... if you guys dont like the walls, rent curtains! be creative for fucks sake! people need to stop using the same setup and move shit around, small things can make a huge difference! (ex: closing part of the room off at antix, moving the booth at magnetica...)
I'm feeling better right now..

and fractal is not really far, its way easy accesible by metro, do u guys remember le bingo or what, we had to take 20+min of bus, and the metro was way far ...

the trick is to drop at jean talon and walk its not worth waiting 20 for a metron on the blue line for 1 station...

so that far thing dont work...

i used to go to raves where we could only get there with a yelllow bus, THAT was far ...

and then again... guys...

i don't think you guys should be blaming venues and not having enough "decorations" or any shit like that for low attendances at partys either...

thats pretty sad if you think about it... really pathetic acctually.

i'm sure there are alot of crews in the city that have never used the place and would have no problems packing the place to the tits...

i tend to disagree with the fact that its kinda far... its only a walking distance from the subway
its a bit of a sketchy venue but in a good way, i find...it looks underground without being it really
and i couldnt agree more on the owner friendlyness/caring about the scene... VERY UNLIKE Backstage in Ottawa :P

Still, it's a 30 second job from Castelneau, or 5 minutes walk from Jean-Talon.
