Another reason to like Vista:

[ tech.blorge.com ]

“You may not use the software installed on the licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system,” the end user license agreement states.

No more VMware.

conner hit it quite on the head. well said man.
I personally used PCs since the tandy 1000 and remained a content PC user for over 2 decades. I finally decided to give mac a try this summer and it was a radical shift in perspective. I recognize that PC are modifiable to a significantly greater degree and are by far more potentially powerful, but macs provide an ease of operation and a reliability that is incomparable. This is the reason why great producers of film, music, and content use macs. THey may not have the interest or aptitude to learn how to use their computer before thay can create their primary focus. They just want to do it. PC users are mostly about their computers and modifying them, or they are using AOL.
But I'm now mactarded. Computers are getting lost on me. It really is like Fisher-Price. But I'm making tons of not-computer stuff.
Since religion is kinda played out, this will be the next great division.
ANd the ads are briliantly executed. More ads should do this. Apple owns advertising.

Apple owns advertising... Mike you got that one right.

Actually... I think both windows and mac have you all played. Both these companies have managed to make little marketing exeutives out of all of you. Fuck man... I wish I owned a company where random people would defend me on the internet and in arguments at the office.
I'm feeling sick :( right now..

The fact about the price is that apple cripples their lower end models to force people to pay more to get a basic feature (like burning dvds). Try finding a PC desktop or even laptop that is sold without a DvD burner.. The only ones I have seen are the ones that cost less than 500.

OS X is a good operating system but it's kind of pathetic that you have to use third party software to merge folders properly or to maximize a window to fill the whole screen (without doing it manually).

Apple also doesn't recognize the fact that some of us don't care about sexy systems, we want something cheap and expandible, but are interested in their generally solid OS and some of their software. Why do I have to buy a "super sexy" computer if I want to use final cut or logic. I use a computer to get work done, not masturbate over how shiny the case is.

Again you answer your own question!
Let me say first that I've burnt over 400 CD's with movies, music, porn, whatever... they are all sitting in my closet... I lost the catalog files a long time ago and have no clue what's on any of those CDs and I'll be damned if I am going to look through them for the Red Hot Chili Peppers album, I can just download it again!!

Hear this and hear this well! If MAC OS X supported replacing the harddrive, the optical drive, the motherboard or the processor, OS X would need to support them and then OS X would NOT be what it is today. It would NO longer be stable and NO longer be optimized and work the way computers should. Apple owns the whole shebang precisely so that they can make sure you have a flawless experience, if they need to support unknown upgrades and changes, you LOSE that stability and that experience.
And here's a beautiful little link to where you can buy yourself a perfectly good EXTERNAL DVD BURNER.
Not upgradeable? I think not.

Do people get mad at McDonalds for forcing them to buy the Happy Meals to get the toy? No, because everyone knows that the toy is a trick to get you to buy the happy meal. OS X is the candy that makes you get in the Mac Hardware Van.... except Microsoft is the one waiting to rape you when you get out.
I'm feeling tired right now..

Ive used pc's since we had a TI machine then later an 8086. Ive also used Apple (we had an apple 2e, predating "macintosh")and varios macintosh models. Assumed credability asside, i find the main difference is like driving a manual transmission compared to an automatic. The versatility of PC's used to be gimp compared to macs for a while, hence all the studios using them for any and all purposes, as well as alot of editing software being mac-specific. Then came the p4. Different story as PC's are capable of pretty much anything a mac can do (macs btw, now come w/ Intel chips), w/o the "fischer-price" aspect. Studios continue to use macs (imho) based on the "if it aint broke..." mantra.

I have used dedicated versions of both platforms for the same uses and, other than the obvious mouse button issue and having to reboot the mac because it ran out of memory, i find very little difference. Certainly nothing that justifies the price difference of a mac.

That said, i will never buy a Mac, simply because i see no justification for the price.
I'm feeling weekend? right now..

It supports a lot of those things actually, although it isn't always easy to change the parts of some models...
