Apple-Period is unatural? the Apple key is the same as the "alt" key.. which is right next to the period key. How is that unatural?

Murdock_rock: Sorry to bust your balls but for pro video, avid has been available for PC for a long time. Probably more people run it on apple systems but I'm sure there are plenty who run it on PC's. Also I know some broadcast places use vegas for editing (also what I am using now)... Final cut has only been used for professional stuff recently.

I can vouch for that since I have confirmed that all video montage/editing is done on PC at my workplace(TV station).

@ scotty...

i mentioned avid a few times in this thread....

and it costs substantialy more to set up an avid studio than to set up a final cut studio.

i was under the impression that this argument was over whether the extra cost is necissary?

moondancer - if your tv station uses avid - thats great as avid is the best video software for production.
final cut pro is amazing for editing as well..it just depends what a company is comfortable with.
I worked on pcs in small companies because its cheaper - and can still do the trick - however I have taken longer to complete assignments because the pc is a billion times slower than a mac and u definately cannot run 3 different big softwares on a pc and still have it go fast.
When it comes to designing/video - yes I prefer the mac. But when it comes to everything else I prefer the pc.
End of story.
I'm feeling fabulous right now..

NO YOU'RE WRONG! Didn't you read what sophia wrote? You're not allowed to prefer mac's because they're useless toys that can't really do anything!

murdock_rock: my point is that the PCs are still used quite a bit for video work. But an avid workstation is not the same as running a cracked version of adobe premier on a generic home PC. You generally wouldn't be using the workstation for anything besides video work so it would have limited exposure to the virus/adware problem.

I think the mac platform is a good one but they are still very very expensive. You could build a very good workstation PC for less than 2000$, while apple workstations (mac pro's) start at something like 2500. The high end Imacs would be plenty fast for doing a lot of work but they have little expansion possibilities besides usb/firewire. That's one thing that has kept me from switching.

Scott, I managed to install OSX on one of my low end PCs, the only reason I'm not using it is because i don't have any drivers for my ATI card in it. I bet you could build a super cheapass pc box and shove OSX on it (making sure that your hardware is acceptable).

@ scotty...

i never said they couldn't...

you can easy set up an avid station on a p.c.

but it cost alot more to set up than a mac does and if you use windows your software is limited.

and neo... i'm interested in knowing the specs of you cracked osx p.c. and how its running...

some ppl i know have tried this too but the system lagged like a bitch.
