Shit went down TODAY.

From its discovery in 1930 until 2006 it was considered the ninth and smallest of the planets of the Solar System, both by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and the general public. However, after much debate, the IAU decided on August 24, 2006 to reclassify Pluto as a dwarf planet, requiring that a planet must "clear the neighborhood around its orbit."[3] It qualified as a planet under the draft definition,[4] but it failed to qualify under the final resolution, passed by the General Assembly of the IAU.

That's why there's a thread about it TODAY.

It's because of the new retarded system for inserting pics. Every picture hosted on [ rave.ca ] has a number, so all you have to do to post images is insert it's number in between square brackets, so if I put 1 in square brackets I get [1] that shows up, if I put 666 in them then it's
that shows up...
I'm feeling sleepy right now..

If it has a moon, and pluto has 3 moons, then it should be considered a planet...

so a tomato should be a fruit cuz it's bright red, has seeds, and it's juicy?

seeya bitch!! and take that whore Xena (UB313 trans-Neptunian object) with ya

it doesn't matter if Pluto is a planet or not now, it will in the future. Why is it newsworthy or important today? because "planet" desperately needs a definition which "planet" never had. For clarification, for sciences, future space treaties, for future colonies and future land claims.

In depth, it's to prove science and physics the ability to adapt to new circumstances and new facts. Unlike religion...
Science is willing to change how the world look and what it is.

Yes if it has seeds it's a fruit and I consider a tomatoe a fruit... Some people claim a fruit comes from trees and vegtables from the ground... But it's all about the seeds, I think...

Botanically speaking, a tomato is the ovary, together with its seeds, of a flowering plant, i.e. a fruit or, more precisely, a berry. However, from a culinary perspective the tomato is typically served as a meal, or part of a main course of a meal, meaning that it would be (and is) considered a vegetable. As noted above, the term "vegetable" has no botanical meaning and is purely a culinary term.

This argument has led to actual legal implications in the United States, Australia and China. In 1887, U.S. tariff laws that imposed a duty on vegetables but not on fruits caused the tomato's status to become a matter of legal importance. The U.S. Supreme Court settled this controversy in 1893, declaring that the tomato is a vegetable, using the popular definition which classifies vegetable by use, that they are generally served with dinner and not dessert. The case is known as Nix v. Hedden (149 U.S. 304). While the Tomato can be classified as a fruit, it is officially categorized as a definite vegetable in the United States.

The USDA also considers the tomato a vegetable.

Strictly speaking, the holding of the case applies only to the interpretation of the Tariff Act of March 3, 1883 and not much else. The court does not purport to reclassify tomato for botanical or for any other purpose other than paying a tax under a tariff act.

In concordance with this classification, the tomato has been proposed as the state fruit of New Jersey. Arkansas takes both sides by declaring the "South Arkansas Vine Ripe Pink Tomato" to be both the state fruit and the state vegetable in the same law, citing both its botanical and culinary classifications.

But, due to the scientific definition of a fruit and a vegetable, the tomato still remains a fruit when not dealing with tariffs.

ok then for the sake of my previous post, i use fruits and vegetables define as in everyday use, the culinary definition, and not from a botanical perspective.

There is spacedust, small asteroids, planetoids, planets, giant planets, brown dwarfs, medium stars, blue giants...
The frontiers between these types of spatial objects are made by humans. In reality there exists a ton of objects that could fit in 2 categories... Pluto was one of them, something between a planet and a planetoid... Looks like the scientists don't like "uncertain" cases.. They MUST classify everything ;)
