 Coolness: 339610 | This monday i started working for a company that hired me to work as a computer programmer so i could design an online dating site for them. I told noah about this position 3 weeks ago, he had no issues with it.
2 days ago Noah suddenly objected to the fact when he found out i might be getting a 10-15% cut of proffits made from this company. Of course, he's happy to let me work for them if he get's half my paycheck. He says it's ok If i work as a consultant for him under our company (Dotmate), which of course entitles noah to 50% of my paycheck after i spend 40hours a week in an office working, while he sits at home doing nothing. this leaves me with a fabulous 8.25/hr as a programmer. So, at this point, i have little to no other alternatives but to disolve the partnership we have since i have massive debt (read: $35,000) that i need to rid myself of, and i can't work a job if noah's going to object every time i try and make that money back. anyway, i've basically been fighting with him for 3 days now, and he's taking the position that i am being a backstabber who's trying to run off and start a business with someone else, when all i'm doing is working for someone else doing what i know how to do, and getting paid what i earned in the process. I'm not sure where he gets off being this greedy and selfish, but what else can i do? Everyone should take a look at [ www.dotmate.com ] before it dissapears, cause at this rate, it'll be gone real soon thanks to noah's inability to live with the fact that i need a job to pay off my debts. |

I've got debt, I need to pay it off. There is nothing bad about me working for someone who wants a dating site, nothing. Noah says i'm working for a competitor, which is insane, it's like saying opening a depaneur somewhere in China is somehow competing with his dep. down the street. As for the issue at hand, I dont know that many details so Im not taking sides but Ian I believe you neglected to mention that the company you want to go work for is in direct competiton with DotMate. I'm on contract with the telco I work for that I cant work for any telecom company for a YEAR after my contract with them dissolves, forget DURING it. This is the regular accepted (and understandable) practice in the business world. Conflict of interest is not mere semantics and fucks companies up every day. Not doubting your integrity here as DotMate is yours too, but these rules were put in place for a reason. The unpleasant situation youre going through now may be nothing compared to ones people get themselves into if these rules are not in place or aren't observed. My 2c EDIT: You did mention it was competition, sorry I didnt notice it at first. However the depaneur analogy is flawed because internet is anything but localized and trade secrets and ready code of another similiar company can give quite the advantage to a start-up, not to mention customer base exposure issues which can directly hurt the original business. Again, not putting your integrity to question here, but these things happen. So no, it aint no depaneur bizzle. :b |

| Coolness: 339610 | There's no competition since there are already litterally thousands of Online Dating sites out there. Not to mention the fact that noah has ALWAYS been against the concept of anti-competition clauses and contracts that stop him from working for whom he wants.
He's suddenly decided that he's ok with them, now that it suits him. Also, there is no conflict of interest, look at it like this: a) i own an online dating site b) i go to work for another online dating site who do you think i'm gonna put first? the job, or the company i own and just put half a year of work and $40,000 into? you'd have to be retarded to think i'd just flush it down the toilet for someone else. I WILL however kill the partnership if noah does not figure out that I will not be chained down by him because he wants a cut of every dollar i make (outside of the company), it's not high right to be robbing me of what i earn. |
