I said I wonder how we would THINK, not communicate. and whether or not language affects our understanding of concepts. We most often think with words.

A recent also shows people who are more fluent in their language - use more body movements/gestures etc. I would have thought it was opposite, the less proficient you are with the language; more gestures - But it would appear that that assumption is incorrect.

if you move your hands around it *can* mean you're not as fluent.. ie. you put up 3 fingers when trying to say the word 3..

but on the other hand, does that mean that all italians can't speak their language? I GUESS SO!

One way to explain that is that if you speak a language fluently as opposed to mediocrely, one would tend to be more confident and thus more expressive verbally and physically.

But that doesn't mean that when there was no language similar to the ones that exist today that people were not more adept at understnading body language.

Perhaps thinking came with the use of words. Before that it was just emotion.

And i sincerely do not think that the english minority in Qc gets picked on nearly as much as the french do in the rest of canada (except in Atlantic Canada). Its really insulting to be called "frenchy". You can get called that here in Qc, but did you ever hear "hey look at the englishy"?

being from ontario 'n all, i know that english people call french people 'frenchies' because most of them dont know how to speak french... some of them are really envious.. why else would you make fun of someone? cuz you feel the need to feel better about yourself.. or, yknow, cuz youre jewwwous! or cuz youre fat!!! btw. HAH!
my 4 cents.

ps. ok..obviously there are more reasons as to why poeple make fun of eachother... but i know most of my friends from toronto or ottawa who made fun of 'frenchies' diddnt know how to speak french and said that evryone who can is really lucky. HAhaa

The body movement is only a tool, which you can control or not. Some people -know- about how this stuff, so they will use their hands and all to convince you, not only their words. Le non-verbal est plus important que le verbal. Obviously shy people don't act out a lot... It's just that you just can't dump all the people who uses a lot of gestures into a category like that, things are much relative than that.

Why would any immigrant in their right mind want to come to north america and learn french? I don't blame them for wanting to learn english it opens up a lot more options..
