AlienZed - if a contract isn't binding, then it's not a contract...I think you misunderstand the term. I also think you misunderstand a lot of what we are talking about when you make comments like "And if there's no money coming from it, then don't sign it"......

a contract is useless unless you can afford to pay lawyers to enforce it. and even then, good luck getting blood from a stone.

a contract is a lot worse than not having a contract. Just ask any of the hundreds of artists languishing in obscurity every year because their label won't promote or release their records, and who are prevented from moving on to a new beginning because they are under contract.

having a record deal doesn't really speak to your knowledge of the industry except that at one point in time you made a poor financial decision.

Update » mtl_mtl wrote on Wed Jan 17, 2007 @ 5:27pm
does the person in this thread who alluded to their record deal seem happy with his situation, given his posts in this thread?

i do have my own label. I am aware of the costs involved, why is why it has been a couple of years since I released anything on vinyl. I prefer to explore alternate income sources from music than record sales, as record sales are a failed business model at every level of the industry.

I completely agree that musicians are much better served through self release and promotion than they are by enslaving themselves to someone else's money making agenda...

I'm saying that people who say they can't make money in music, and then use the fact that they have a record deal to justify that answer, are hilarious. A record deal = a loan with fucked up terms, and if you see it as some kind of magical key to riches or financial independence, well, I guess you need to read more Steve Albini.

"you cant make money as a musician,

im on a label and still have to work like a fuckin monkey."

lol you are on a label and you expect to make money, lol that's hilarious. look, just because you made a poor choice doesn't mean other musicians can't make money.

It certainly is a known brand, and it's not owned by any one promoter or person.

haha, if i participated in races, classic. this guy is too much. thanks for the link to your "family's" page, it was good for some laughs, poser boy.

max cooper himself, as well as most of the participants, always stress that the gumball is a rally, not a race, and it's not about finishing first....but since you are an asshole pretending to be something you are not, well, you probably didn't know that.

i don't use google, i have a moral problem with their business plan - and if you are calling me kid, I hope you are at least around 45 years old...although given the maturity level of your posts, it would really surprise me.

whats up with the newb trying to own everyone?
