don't take this the wrong way, but any fretless string instrument has an unlimited number of tones. and these tones are not stuck in the 8 notes and their associated sharps we have in western music.

second, pianos didn't sound exactly the same "200 years ago". And electric guitars are less than 70 years old.

third, you need to relax. There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy horatio. The idea that somehow being an engineer elevates someone over another who is "just a musician" is ridiculous, and narrowminded.

and your comment about physical instruments "sounding great without having to try" is actually hilarious, because it's synthesised sound that requires absolutely no playing technique to sound good "without having to try". You've got it backwards, buddy. It takes technique and practise to make a great sound on an instrument.

I've already provided 2 links to government officials stating that self-identification to law enforcement is not a requirement unless you are being arrested for a criminal offense. I don't know what else it takes to convince people. I'm done here, it's like a brick wall sometimes.

You are not required to cary id in canada. All you have to do is say "I don't have any ID with me". There is no law saying you must carry ID. That is the hallmark of a police state.

Cops are not lawyers. I have been to court many times and had tickets thrown out because the cop did not know the law. Either get a lawyer for your court date, or learn the law yourself and bring examples with you to your hearing. Just because you got a ticket from a police officer who did not respect your rights and didn't know the law, doesn't mean that the law wasn't on your side and that it hasn't been the entire time.

No, you don't get arrested for obstruction of justice, you only have to identify yourself if you are being arrested for a criminal offence, not ticketed for a civil offence....Did you read any of the links I posted? I am pretty sure the Canadian Privacy Commissioner knew his job and the law. I have also done this, I was not arrested for not identifying myself. Why spread false information?

yes, it is perfectly legal. You are not required to carry ID with you in Canada in a public place, and you can give a false name and address as long as no one by that names lives at the address you give them. I have done it.

"As it is now, Canadians do not have to identify themselves to police unless they are arrested or engaged in a licensed activity such as driving."

This in response to Bill C-55 which would allow the RCMP to obtain passenger lists from airlines. Which is currently illegal.

Canada's privacy commissioner, George Radwanski, at the time speaing about bill C-17

"As I'm sure you know, in Canada we are not required to identify ourselves to the police as we go about our normal law-abiding business. Unless we are being either arrested or carrying out a licensed activity such as driving, we are not even required to carry ID, let alone to identify ourselves to the police."

Jaywalking is not a criminal offense. You are not being arrested - you are being ticketed. Since you are in a public place, you are not required to provide identification to the officer writing the ticket.

It pays to know your rights, citizens!

i had my gf in the living room watching the signal meter with a portable radio, so we were doing it that way. it's not the best method, but i don't have any tv's small enough up on the roof.

my signal strength is not great with the clouds today, so I am probably going back up this afternoon so i can get a better signal before the anaheim game tonight.

and i don't feel that videotron is better than american satellite with ppv....;)

it's not like i'm making this up...fire safety is a commonly known law as it applies to venues. if you pack kids into a building with only one way out, or with exits that are too small or don't lead away from the building, then you will get shutdown. These laws have been in existence for DECADES and they are there to protect us. When you re-purpose a venue for a party, you have to make sure there are valid fire exits, plain and simple. It's ok if you don't believe me, but maybe you have never had police ask to see a building's capacity permit, or ask you to show them each exit and that each exit was clear and accessible. I have.

i was not there, and you will notice that my initial posts in this thread are mainly to do with how much it pisses me off when people blame the police for shutting down parties when they should be blaming the promoters for not choosing venues that would last all night longe.

You know that I have also thrown my share of parties. I've had police come to every single party I have ever been involved in, and I have had them come multiple times in the same night. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 officers, whatever. And the parties were not shut down, because the venues were safe and there were no legitimate reasons to close down the party. I have even had the police arrest someone at one of my parties and yet the party was allowed to continue.

I didn't intend to turn this into a pissing contest about "promoter experience". I know you have thrown parties as well, but cops do not shut down safe venues unless they have other valid reasons (noise complaints, crowds gathering on the street, etc).

i would think that quote proves my point much more than it proves yours....I don't see what you are getting at. The cops shut down the venue because they considered it unsafe. They were going to have the fire department come and write tickets to that effect. It seems pretty clear to me.

2. The police gave us two reasons for the shutdown which i offered to fix (speakers blocking an exit and an enclosure around an exit). How is that not about a fire exit? All exits in a building are "fire" exits.

You say cops are "supposed to protect us", but then you bitch when they close a venue with improper fire exits???? if a building burned down and killed 400 kids because they couldn't get out in time, you don't think that would hurt our community, or the city of montreal in general? Try to move beyond the basic "cops are stupid" point of view and join the real world, where things happen for a reason.

I'm sorry but fire safety laws do make everyone safer, and if you can't see that, take off the rave goggles, genius.
