We're very sad to report the news this morning that David Carradine has passed away in Bangkok, Thailand, the victim of an apparent suicide.

The AP confirms that the 72-year-old actor was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room. Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot a movie and had been staying at the hotel since Tuesday.

Carradine was a staple in the horror genre with Q: The Winged Serpent, I Saw What You Did, Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat, Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror, and Dead & Breakfast representing just a small portion of his genre output. He is, of course, best known as Caine in the TV series "Kung Fu". In his later years Carradine produced and starred in several exercise videos teaching the martial arts of Tai chi and Qigong.

Carradine Found Dead In Hotel

4 June 2009 9:20 AM, PDT | From [ wenn.com ] | See recent WENN news

Actor David Carradine has been found dead in a hotel in Thailand.

The Kill Bill star, 72, was staying in Bangkok while shooting his new movie Stretch.

Local media in Thailand initially reported Carradine had committed suicide by hanging himself in his hotel suite, but the star's agent has told a U.S. TV channel he believes the actor died of natural causes.

Carradine's manager Chuck Binder says a producer of the Stretch movie found the actor dead when he called at his room at the Park Nai Lert Hotel in Junfan Mulay, Bangkok.

But police in Thailand insist a hotel maid had found Carradine dead in a wardrobe with a rope around his neck and body on Thursday morning. A spokesman declined to give further details out of consideration for the actor's family.

Paying tribute to Carradine, Binder said: "(His death is) shocking and sad. He was full of life, always wanting to work... a great person."

Carradine was born John Arthur Carradine in Hollywood, and was part of an acting dynasty which included his father, John Carradine, and brothers Bruce, Keith and Robert.

He took a course in drama at San Francisco State University, before changing his name to David and launching his career on the stage.

He appeared in more than 100 films and TV dramas, working with prestigious directors including Martin Scorsese and Ingmar Bergman, but was best known for his roles as Kwai Chang Caine in the 1970s series Kung Fu and as the title character from Quentin Tarantino's martial arts films Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2.

In 2005, he was awarded the Action On Film International Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award in honour of his 45-year career.

Carradine was married five times - most recently to Annie Bierman in 2004 - and had two daughters, Calista Miranda and Kansas.

Actor David Carradine has been found dead in a Bangkok hotel room, according to multiple news reports. BBC News says that he was in Thailand filming his latest movie, Stretch. He was 72.

The eldest son of character actor John Carradine made more than 200 appearances in films and television shows, first rising to prominence with his starring role as Caine in the TV series Kung Fu. At the time, me and my friends thought he was the coolest thing on the planet: he sought peace with everyone he encountered, yet could quickly put down any opposition that arose simply by using his hands and feet (and head). Later I caught up with his 70s film work: a union leader in Martin Scorsese's Boxcar Bertha, laconic race car driver Frankenstein in Paul Bartel's Death Race 2000, and, especially, his embodiment of folk singer Woody Guthrie in Hal Ashby's Bound for Glory.
