If you went around a room full of people and asked what style of music they thought was the best, you'd probably get as many different answers as there are people in the room.

The fact is the only way you would actually know what the best music is you'd have to listen to every recording ever recorded to then determine what the best music is according to your individual tastes.

Since it is actually impossible to listen to every single piece of music ever recorded based on the sheer lack of time in a persons lifespan, it is safe to say no one can actually claim to actually know what the best music is (unless of course you have supernatural listening powers ;)

That made no sense, apart from the part i put in bold.

Weirdly, you allude to the subjectivity of musical tastes in the first part, the one i didn't quote, AND that part i put in bold, but then you end with something that makes me think you'd wanna spam your dj ego once more.

We get it, you're an awesome dj and have been so for the better part of two decades. You still only know what music YOU like. Luckily, your tastes have an audience.

To be honest, that goes for you too, Matthew. But after checking that list you posted and recognizing quite a couple names, i'ma have to check the rest of 'em sometime, maybe :)

He asked me for suggestions. I am simply filling out a request, to the best of my knowledge and ability.

But, I will be honest, when I think of darkness (in music), innovation, sound experimentation, I think of Industrial. (well, the old stuff anyway)

I would also like to point out that my tastes have no audience. XD

Ok did I write any of the things you're implying I said? No I didn't

If you read what I wrote Im actually saying that "no one" can claim to have the best music since its physicallly impossible to listen to EVERYTHING that comes out to reach that conclusion. Thats means including MYSELF.

The fact I've been collecting music and playing it for audiences for most of my life because its something I ENJOY has nothing to do with it.

You should actually try djing sometime, and then maybe you'll finally understand whats its all about instead of speculating. I'm sure you have a good selection of tunes since you hang out a lot at parties listening to djs seeing what works and what dosent. All you need then is too buy some decks (between $1500 and $2000 for a pair), a mixer and some speakers to practice on. You can use either a dj program like traktor or the other program that mixes for you, or you can start buying records and support the music on wax, or you can opt for cds. Then start a night somewhere and voila you're dj superstar selector Masa.

@ Termina, there is actually not a lot of difference between posting some tunes on the internet that you want people to check out or playing those tunes in a club aside from the fact in a club you're mixing them and you're getting paid to do it.

In both cases you're looking for a reaction from the people you're transmitting the information too. Did they like it? did they hate it? did anyone care about my choices?. For example on here you might have someone write "oh I dont like your choices, they suck, mines better". Its the same way when you dj in a club someone will always come up and say "listen man, this shit sucks, play something good". Same shit different medium

Its important to remember all djs are music geeks first and foremost, thats how it starts

Dissing anyone for their music tastes, however shitty they may appear to you, is moot. It's subjective. Listening to all of the music ever made would only get you a very veeerrry thorough understanding of YOUR music tastes, not what "best music" is.

Granted, we can come to a consensus, assemble with like-minded people (such as this place and the events/genres it promotes), but.. Yeah. I still respectfully disagree with your post.

And... Quit trying to get me to DJ, Blisss, please. I've said time and time again that I figured looong ago my place would be as a listener, not a selector. Quite a couple of you DJ types can attest seeing me rock out a dancefloor; THAT's where i belong.

I'm fine with that, and I'm fine with "paying" people to do that. Hell, this will sound shitty, but it probably also explains why soo many of my friends are DJs and producers

Hummm I was breakdancing in clubs at 15, whats your point? Are you saying you're the king of the dancefloor now?

Sigh. I'm telling you I don't agree with your argument. Even IF you had all the time in the world and listened to EVERY PIECE OF MUSIC EVER CREATED, it would STILL be SUBJECTIVE, i.e. YOU COULD NEVER CLAIM TO KNOW WHAT THE BEST MUSIC IS.

Geez.

Don't project your ego on me, please.
Happy New Year, Blisss. Go measure your dickness with somebody that cares. If you don't wanna argue rationally, I'll go back to not discussing stuff with you at all.
