wait... so, forgive my poor translation skills, am I to understand that every single culture on the face of the planet - throughout eternity - failed to find true spiritual enlightenment until psytrance solved all the riddles and handed the keys to unlock the mysteries of universe to a bunch of people high on drugs and patchouli fumes?
I'm feeling new records right now..

According to someone, essentially, yes. Well, the dialogue went more along the lines of all musical styles can help you attain true spiritual enlightenment but nothing surpasses psytrance for the job since it was specifically created and designed for that purpose, yeah.

Draw your own conclusions from this as I have.

Il bet every culture "troughout eternity" has had his version of psytrance. Bunch of peoples all high on shroom banging on drums.

Shroom today, shroom 6000 years ago, same buzz ;)

isn't that kind of like a dude saying "any penis can slide into a vagina, but nothing surpasses mine since it was specifically created and designed for that purpose." ??

well if you took the time to learn who really did create jungle, it would dispel these odd steretypes you have about them =) Judging by your description I'd bet you a pint you don't actually know who any of the real pioneers were =)

I started listening to jungle mixtapes in 93. I was at jungle raves in 94/95 and I can tell you the original jungle scene and the music was not like how you portray. that jah rastafari boh junglist shit came later. but patois-speaking chavs no more represent “jungle music”, than new-age hippies represent psy-trance.

just to put those illusions to rest – check this vid ->

Go to 3:08 to see footage of jungle at a rave in Toronto in 94. you'll see a lot of happy people high on pills dancing to breakbeats with uplifting strings and pianos and female vocals. darkside vibes too, some jungle techno basslines, and maybe a little ragga thrown in as well. in the early days, that was what you could expect at a jungle party.

So you're right - that stereotype of patois speaking aggressive junglists definitely is real. But you've got to understand, there's lots of serious jungle/D&B producers and Djs who aren't remotely like that, and play amazing music that has nothing to do with that ragga/dancehall crossover. So you shouldn't paint us all with the same brush. What you see on the surface doesn't reflect what's happening in the underground. There's always people travelling in different orbits.

oops - I meant - go to 2:52 - that's where the jungle clip starts. the whole vid is worth watching though

there are a lot of different ways to hit trance states... I seriously pity those who have only managed to find one - and believe that their one single route to a mystical state is the only real one.

I dont think the fact that anything can help attain a trance is challenged in this thread. Just that psytrance is a favored tool frequently used by psychonaults around the world to accompany them in there psychedelic experience.
Whereas partying for the sake of partying may be the goal of most electronic beat events, the psychedelic experience, with or without drugs, is a common denominator at most psytrance events. Maybe theres a difference between just getting drunk, and getting high on lsd...

...And I never knew that all along, peeps at hardcore/breakcore/industrial/d&b party's where all about trying to create some sort of trance for themselves.

Civilizations much older than ours, like Mayans, were able to fall into trances with just the sound of drums, why would hardcore be any different ? If anything, hardcore sounds a heck of a lot closer to beating drums than psytrance ( tempo aside, obviously ).

Of course, said "trance" is a bit different from style to style but the effects are similar.

As I said, anything can help in falling into a trance, even silence. Maybe the Mayans got there by using the sounds of drums, maybe it was by drinking the blood of there enemy. I dont know.

But the fact that everyone is staking claim to "the trance" today is quite amusing to me. Specially by those who rail about it 99% of the time.

I think what's being challenged is precisely the value of "psytrance-inducted" trance vis-à-vis other "types" of trance. And why the proponents of the former usually seem to preach it as the ultimate trance one can get.

I like psytrance and goa and stuff, but music in general tends to uplift me. Hell, I started listening and raving to "melodic"/"uplifting" trance, and I intensely remember the chills some melodies gave me, all while sober.

And hey, funny enough, I got the same vibe over the years to many different genres.

Even dubstep.

It's supposed to be a pretty individualistic experience, and whenever you're at an event, then and ONLY then can it become a (somewhat) shared experience. And THAT's still a pretty individual choice, whether or not to share.

So yeah... Preachers, bite me. Mind your own trance, and please don't step on my trip.

Oooh, oooh, you know what I enjoyed?
Parties with different genres! Then we can all share our trip to whoever wants to listen, and perhaps get different insights

Let's be serious anyway. It's becoming pretty obvious that it's not really about the music, and more about LSD huh? I guess I can't blame you
