Conclusion: Psy-trance is stupid, because the people promoting it always want to make things gaudy, but also want to play some pimp game with the door money and get mad stupid high. |

10 Commandments of booking a DJ. 1. A DJ ALWAYS GETS PAID what was agreed upon, even if you have to drink Big10 for a week instead of Stella. 2. Don't go back on your word 3. Everything is negotiable. 4. Get that shit in writing. 5. Be polite and professional. 6. Don't sweat the small stuff. 7. Be stern, not a bitch, about the big stuff 8. Dirty laundry belongs in the hamper, not on the interwebz. 9. Make sure the DJ booth is in order. Bring spare needles/headphones if you have them. 10. Happy artists make happy ravers, which makes happy promoters Follow these 10 rules and epic times will be had by all, good reviews will come, and people will love you. Don't and you'll burn in hell (or at least it'll feel like it). |

I've never had much of a problem with that. usually at the gigs I've played people either expect to hear the jungle/D&B I'm playing or they tolerate it. though I do recall playing the chill room at Secret Society in 2007... this well-known douchebaguette starts bitching at me.. saying my music is too fast for the chill room.. and demanded that I play my jungle on -8 !! she actually grabbed the pitch on the Tech 12 and did it herself! idiot. sorry but pitching a jungle record down to -8 doesn't magically turn it into chill-out music.. it just sounds atrocious. though maybe to her speed and K-addled brain it did sound good.. who knows. the only other time I had that in MTL was one girl - who is a really obnoxious drunk.. yelling in my ear while I'm trying to mix saying "dont play this shit - don't play ambient jungle!".. feck off mate. if I'm playing a set at some free party, I play a variety of styles in that hour. deep, dark, ragga, jump up, hardcore, jungle techno. so sorry i'm not playing her cheesy happy-go-lucky anthems. if you don't like a few tunes I play, too fucking bad. but I totally don't mind taking requests, so long as they are good tunes that I would actually have in my crate.. in fact if you show that you have knowledge and can name some underground tune you want to hear, I'm happy to play it for you. shows me that I'm playing for people who have good taste. I try to play what I think the crowd want to hear, but I don't ever let punters who just started listening to D&B last year tell me what's what. as a jungle DJ, though.. I'd say much more of a problem is unprofessional untalented unknown "MCs" elbowing their way onto sets, and ruining them with their incessant blather. but that's another story.
