Not all electronic music is repetitive either, and IMO the repetitiveness of music in the top 40 today completely blows the repetitiveness of most electronica out of the water. haha Originally Posted By DATABOY

 Coolness: 73225 | Well my main beef with Tiesto is that he in a sense codified the trance structure. It's like every single one of his songs follow the same Breakdown-Build-Anthem structure. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it's cool. I think we all need that breakdown or anthem somewhere in a set, but it really gets on my nerves when every single track is exactly the same.
Anyways I don't think he's the only artist who's ever done this. I can think of so many others who found some magic "formula" then decided to make every single song like that one. I think what happens is that artists get lazy and stop exploring new sounds or different textures cuz bottom line is that it takes a lot more work and people won't always understand your work. SO hey that last song worked, let's just change the leads around a bit, move the break 1 minute forward add an intro and bam new hit. It's like finding out that the best part of your cereal you eat in the morning is the sugar, then taking a bowl of straight up sugar and eating that every morning instead. I think this dude Ishkur wrote that on his site once when criticizing edm. Anyways I don't blame tiesto... I blame the masses who are too lazy and stupid too develop their own musical tastes, and would rather hear the same thing regurgitated over and over again because they think it makes them cool. |
