People are losing big time thats for sure

I don't own stocks though, don't have a credit card (don't owe anyone anything), don't have a home so the losses haven't really affected me.

Most people around me have lost close to half their value

& Guess who's gonna make it when shit hits the fan, its guys like you and me Cutter, guys that are used to life being tough to begin with

Trust me, there's gonna be loads of people that will be out of work soon with nothing else to do than make music so I'm sure you'll have tons of equipment to repair.

You should also branch out and exploit your computer knowledge, people pay good money for that kind of knowledge.

Well I am a singer/songwriter so I don't imagine it will be very easy now!! :( But I guess people will need music.

This whole imaginary economy thingy is really annoying, and the imaginary crash that comes with it that somehow translates into reality. Maybe next time, not so much fake money should be printed, lol.

Well being a musician has never been easy,

People will always need music though, even more when times are tough,

Now is probably the time to invest yourself even more in your passion

Not true. I watched a report on the television stating that since the decline in the state of the economy, alcohol sales have been steadily increasing. The reason being that people tend to indulge themselves in tough times, to keep a high moral.

Yeah booze sales go up but people drink at home.

For instance I'm a student who lives on my own so I know how to budget like crazy, and my job is inconsistent (I switch from having not enough work to way too much on a dime), and when I am going through a slow time and want to party I hang out with friends and pay 1/3 the amount for drinks (I'm even looking into learning how to brew my own beer so I can bypass a lot of the costs completely).

That and trying my best to cook my own food and brew my own java, DIY saves you tons but it doesn't help some parts of the market.

You guys ARE right about the making music part though, people with a lot of idle time will start whipping up tunes, creative people are sometimes at an advantage during a recession in that way (the bankers and mortgage dealers can cry all day if they want to, they should learn how to create stuff instead of being society's leeches!).

I think you're right on that. Creative people tend to be more skilled and sometimes even they're used to have to create their own jobs so it's easier for them to get out of trouble. If you can sell some stuff you made yourself to help you make hands meet, that's great.
I'm feeling stressed out right now..

Bliss people party more at the beginning of slow downs because

1) those who were working 60+ hours a week because they couldn't find staff with the proper skill, or didn't want increase their staff, now have more time free to party. No one wants to party after putting in 10 hour days. These people tend to have a lot of money, so can afford to drop a lot of money in the clubs now that theyre finally making it out.

2) People are putting off big purchases like cars, and appliances, and vacations, so have more money left over for things like clubbing. If you decide not to go to Mexico this year, thats an extra 2000-4000$. If you choose not to lease a new car and instead keep your old one, your saving 300$ in lease payments/month. A lot of that money is saved, but people tend to "downgrade" their consumption to the clubs and bars.

3) People choose to drink at home rather than at the clubs, so for 30$ get 24 beers rather than just 6...so alcohol sales go up.

Since we're at the begining of the slowdown, people are doing a lot of number (1) and number (2), but job losses have just begun (stock markets anticipate the slowdown 9-16 months in advance...hence the reason for the stock declines), so theres not a lot of (3) going on.

Are you really starting to brew your own beer? I'm shelling out about $70-$100 a week on booze.
If you're saying I can get over 100-liters of beer for $30... You're going to tell me a little more about your plans.

small keg.... and we'd prob only be making stuff 5 gallons at a time (19 litres, or a bit over 2 24's)...
I was told that a you can get the equivalent of 4 cases (24's) of beer (about 32 litres of beer) with about $30 of ingredients, but it depends how good and strong you want it.

Remember there is no sin tax because you are just buying grains and malt and hops and yeast, none of the ingredients are alcoholic on their own...

When you get good at it it tastes as good or better than commercial stuff.. I have had homebrews as good or better as some of the best commercial beers.

Friday's good.

recession-ism is the new terrorism... except instead of just the USA on Orange alert, they've put the whole world into a state of emergency. and good for that... the system is going down. it needed to change. independent sustainable economies create stronger communities and countries. supply peaked above the demand because of too many greedy bastards... to hell with "free" trade. we can all do with a few less American Apparel shops. there's going to be major changes yet... hopefully a complete redesign of our lifestyles. buy and eat locally produced food and products. work where you live. there's already a lot of people who figured this out. for the rest, it's gonna hurt a little... but it IS a very good thing. it was only a matter of time before a defective machine broke down.

yeah...it sucks that shit like food is more expensive, but i'm sure happy to see that they dropped a wrench in their fuckin' machine's gears. unfortunately they'll do everything they can to ensure their place, so i doubt the changes we need will happen; and if does, it'll take time. hopefully, there will be some seemingly minor differences that might make things better overall...

i like the way you think diss0nance :P
