Here's my take: PS is a great tool with countless hours of work behind it. As a software, it is worth more than what it is priced. I can understand students not being able to buy a 399$ software, thats why there are cheapers and free alternatives. As far as hating my job, i dont work for macromedia. I simply have developped a module Adobe needed in PS, and they have been using it ever since. I have done alot of that with other software makers. Where i work now, we have developped a fully featured accounting software (more features than say, Simple Comptable), and it is FREE. We rely on ppl buying more support or advanced features. (so our idea is that someone like you, a student, a self-employed, a small pme, can use a nice accounting software for free, while bigger corporations with bigger needs give us some $). So yes it was judgemental to think i hated my job and was trying to squeeze pennis. As a software maker, i'd just like ppl to realize that using software illegaly is illegal. You might know the saying : qui vole un oeuf, vole un boeuf. I do wish photoshop was free or cheaper for students, but at 399 a copy, they aint making that much profit. (there is over 180$ on that price tag that goes to third parties like myself for patents and whatnot + the developpement cost is pretty high) anyways, i'm done debating this issue, you are right when saying there is no point ppl will do it anyways (just like there is no point in trying to save the environment, ppl will liter anyways, or sending food supplies in africa, leaders will control them anyways). |

 Coolness: 83980 | being a designer who has legal software i gotta say that illustrator is not worth the money they charge for it. (its $800-900 not $500 fyi)
as far as vector software goes its a big clunky hunk of overpriced shit. i really wish macromedia didn't sell out to adobe cuz now i'm gunna have to eventually switch since i use freehand mx for everything and it's less than half the price of illustrator, has better features and is about 1000 times more efficient than illustrator to use. switching to illustrator is going to cost freelance designers like myself alot of money in the long run because it takes 4 times as long to perform basic operations that i can do in freehand in seconds. if your one of the guys who coded illustrator you deserve a punch in the face for coding such a piece of "monopoly" bullshit. the last thing i want to do is put more money in your pocket cuz adobe is taking money out of mine by discontinuing software that saves me money. i can do anything illustrator cs2 users can do in 1/4 of the time with my defunct macromedia software and i don't need indesign for shit. not only that... it runs faster, supports multi page and style sheets(so i don't have to buy indesign either)and doesn't take 10 minutes to open on my mac (i can take a piss and pour a cup of coffee in the time illustrator takes to open and scroll through the names of all the janitors at adobe). so ya... adobe can suck my dick and what the fuck is up with those lines it makes across my page when i convert and editable .eps to .pdf? i can't send that shit to my printer asshole!!! |
