Traditionally, the foreskin is removed from boys to reduce the chance of infection but I'm pretty sure that female circumcision was started to discourage women from having sex for reasons other than procreation... If a similar procedure were done to men, procreation would be reduced (or impossible without artificial insemination) since, unlike women, men need to have an orgasm in order to release the sperm necessary for reproduction...

I'm thinking that perhaps for them the mentality was to guarantee a wife's loyalty if her husband isn't a good sexual performer...

Anyways... I think society should find an alternate way to compromise the situation cause we've honestly become too casually sexual as a species. And the worse part is that the media along with movies and tv shows like Desperate Housewives, Sex And The City, etc promote adultery as a popular, desirable thing, perpetuating the already increasing negative social phenomenon. The statistics are actually quite disturbing and directly reflect the problems regarding family disfunctionality. The following link discusses an ABC sex survey done in the states and talks about the continually increasing adultury rate.

[ abcnews.go.com ]

I also remember reading a couple articles last year on the topic including this one by Nathan Tabor : [ www.overateacup.com ]

The way I see it people have become so bored with monogamous relationships that they'll actually sacrifice their partners emotions or even their own family to find alternate means of being pleasured. People with this problem should obviously end the current relationship beforehand but most are either afraid to, prefering to have a backup person to rely on. I wouldn't say that it causes these people to sacrifice their own moral values because anyone who's willing to hurt their spouse (or partner) emotionally by sleeping with other individuals doesn't have those morals to begin with. Everyone has their reasons for cheating but I think boredom and revenge are on top of the list primarily because couples simply don't communicate enough with one another.

Either we should look for a way to preserve marriage for its traditional beauty or we should all make a conscious effort to help marriage evolve in the western world and perhaps someday we can all go back to polygamous behaviours still practiced in other parts of the world or similar to those in biblical times. Unfortunately, in older times the women were regarded as their husband's property which is why she wouldn't object to him taking other wives. Nowadays the agreement would obviously have to be discussed openly and agreed upon mutually. Technically, in such a busy time like now where practically everyone's forced to work full time and children often don't get the attention they need, it may actually be to our social benefit to have several spouses (given that all the people involved were mutually in agreement) and children were brought up in larger "group families" containing several paternal and maternal role models allowing people to become Darwinistically superior.

True. it is somewhat ethnocentric to biasly compare another culture's social norms to our own.
