They Live was about subliminal messages and how people are trying to control us in various means, as more of an anti-govt. statement with aliens as the metaphore. The Thing was not really like any of those, the creature has no "inteligence" or "plans" for world domination, it's just a single-celled organism that fits into it's environment and imitates things to stay alive as long as possible and reproduce as much as possible.

Check my post update prior to yours as for Night.

They Live... My point, as I stated, was a "them against us but we're too busy bickering, to properly defend ourselves". It stays true with They Live. The Alley Fight, the refusal to believe the truth, the betrayal of a few humans. Definitely not the only message and definitely not as powerful but it was still there: too busy with our petty lives to notice aliens are controlling and manipulating us. Though the anti-govt state IS the strongest point of the movie.

As far as The Thing goes, it's the same "thing". Them against Us, even if the "them" is one organism. It kills and replicates and does not really care to control but to survive. True. But the view the humans have of this remain the same. At a time like this, alliances are moot and mistrust abound. MacReady's return from the cold shack after being betrayed and the ensuing skirmishes are notable. Too busy proving a point. However, MacReady finds the way to stop all this, for a while (the testing of the blood).

They are not the same movies, of course. And by your standards and views, they are quite different. By mine, they fit the same category. "We have more pressing matters than proving who's dick is the biggest" cetegory.

Minou, neither am I. Shaun of the Dead, however, is. You can't change a title because you don't want it spelled the normal way.

Right, Meenhoux?

The Thing though still doesn't really fit in for me. There's no really clear way to spot "them" from "us", it's more about not knowing who you can trust. If The Thing fits into that category, then so does Reservoir Dogs, because that was made as an homage to The Thing. One of these people is not what they seem. Has nothing to do with working together, because you can't tell who's one of "them" and one of "us" unless everyone stays infront of each other at all times once the tests have been made. And even at that, all it would take was a fleck of dust that had been contaminated to blow in from another room and land on someone to infect them. Zombies are a "clear" opponenet, they aren't hidden or trying to hide.

Infected people hiding their wounds, are.

In the end, though, all it matters is whether or not you enjoy the movies. :P And I do. I do realize that the category would fit quite a lot of movies, including Big Mama's House. I try to narrow it down to horror.

yeah, the whole serries was sort of a commentary on the people at the time of the filming. The first one had a lot of tones about racism and sexism (it's the first movie to have a lead black actor AND a lead female with no real lead white male), the original Dawn was really pretty much showing how people just don't give a fuck about anyone else as long as they have more "stuff".

hehe yeah, he was also (unfortunately) in Children of the Living Dead, in what was such a waste of a potentialy amazing character..

I can't wait to see the next movie, Diary of the Dead (or something like that) about some people who are filming something and just end up filming themselves as the whole world starts falling apart during the rise of the zombies.

Imho - that's a pretty weak list... Let Sleeping Corpses Lie is a pretty great zombie film - and the end sequence of The Beyond alone is better than Fulci's Zombi...

I would have put Shatter Dead in there as well... it's budget as hell - but has some fairly original ideas in it... as well as moments of full-on exploitation!

Yeah, Dellamorte Dellamore also deserves to be up on that list. It's like something David Lynch would come up with for a zombie movie.

as for 28 days later...

The Infected are not zombies... Infected are pure rage. Imagine the time you felt the most anger and hateful feeling.. usually it doesn't last more than like maybe half of hour. The Infected feels that all the time.

but people categorized as a "zombie" movie because it has similar atmospheres.. society crumble, few humans vs lot "mindless" beings, human weakness, etc...
Update » Trey wrote on Sat Sep 16, 2006 @ 1:24am
anyway.. i can't wait till 28 WEEKS later...

you know what would be cool after the Infected dies of violence or starvation... they come back as zombies...
haha that would be so dope.
