wouhou :P thank you

c'est vrai... ce n'est pas facile d'organiser ces temps-ci, les gens ne sont pas sorteux

dommage car Dave a organisé de quoi qui aurait été sans faille

la prochaine fois sera la bonne!

Plus the smoking thing IS killing everything.. parties, clubs, bars, pubs, afterhours... everyone is hurtin'...

Why outlaw smoking? It's good for business, the government makes good tax money off it... people should have the right to give themselves cancer if they wanna...

its 100% normal that there was next to nobody at this party, and at all the rest of the parties that are going down this summer..

Montreal promotors think they can throw 5 parties per year and get 200+ people at all of them.. well, the honest truth is, its the opposite that happens.. why ?? because people get tired, there are always better, more important parties to do, and when there isn't a party, its nice to take some sun and not go out for a change. With a HUGE party like Hard as Fuck coming up, people are saving themselves for that party, regardless of the rest.. just look at the turnout of Nostalgia. It had a fairly low attendance if you think of how packed the others were.. even rewire had about 100 people less than last year and i only throw 1-2 parties a year.

Just check the [ rave.ca ] calander and you'll see that everyone's throwing a party this summer.. EVERYONE !! And it has nothing to do with price either nor the line-up, nor the location.

Think about it..

there was Revival two weeks ago, about two weeks before that it was Tw2, last week was nostalgia, now this week's party, next week is St-jean and all there parties, the week after that Omar's in town, then a few weeks after that its Sysmic Breeze, then Pootie Tek, then Eclipse, then Shooting Star , then then then,,. and the list goes on..

we are tired i guess..

just to be clear, this message is general and has nothing to do with Dave or should be directed at Dave in anyway.. its just been this way for about 4 years now.. like Seb said, its really hard throwing parties in the summer because its so nice outside and because there many really important events to save up for such as Eclipse and Samadhi.. :)

Best of luck Dave and concentrate on TW3 !!

oh god damn... why the hell did noone tell me that before I invested my life's earnings in sysmyk breeze... ok here's what we're gonna do, this party will be a fake outdoors party with a bunch of mirrors and shit to reflect the moonlight/sunlight inside... a shitload of fans and some fake greenery!!! NOW COME PEOPLE COOOOME!

jus kiddin seriously though I just try to go at it with a positive attitude... if I lose my shirt doing parties... well god damn I'll have lost my shirt doing parties and just how fucking cool are ya when you lose your shirt doing parties... btw has anyone seen my shirt?

the problem is that they give cancer to the others too... + the pungent smell and all the bad things going with it. but yeah, you know it.
anyway, i'm really enjoying more the public places since 3 weeks !

Keith is right, bars and afterhours (and raves too) need to have indoor smoking areas. The smoking ban is hurting the scene, wether we like it or not. Many smokers just won't enjoy parties like they used too. In the long term, people will just stop smoking, and people who weren't interested in going out to parties might be more interested. For now, however, we're having parties where half the people are outside. I'm not even going inside the risk that a party gets busted due to too many noize made by smokers outside.

As for what Clown said, yes, it's a big problem we have right now. Promoters in Montreal are thowing a party every two months. This way, we got a scene full of smaller parties, and it's easier to skip a smaller party than a big one.

Now don't get me wrong, big doesn't mean international headliner and 20$ tix. Parties such as Rewire or I love Montreal both have line up made exclusively of locals. The secret is in promotion. If everyone says it's gonna be big, than it's gonna be the biggest party ever. This is what happened with the first rewire, that started out as a small party, and ended up with 650 attendance.

This definitely isn't directed at Dave. I've been to a lot of parties recently, while promoting for Time Machine, and I've seen a lot of parties with really low attendance. Sadly, this is the general way the scene works now.

I also think the scene is stagnating pretty badly... and its not the fault of the promoters... the scene has been tapped out... when was the last time you saw new faces at a party that wasn't huge? There's some at Rewire, and the bigger HaFs, etc... but at the weeklies? Nada. I dunno what the solution is, but there needs to be serious recruiting, and flyering and small parties isn't gonna cut it, 90% of the people that get flyers know about the party anyhow... I'm just rambling.. and I gotta go to work.. I may flesh my thoughts out a little later.

You got a good point there. Raving just isn't cool anymore. However, some people will always be attracted to it, just like some people are still heavily into punk. However, with less ravers, come less opportunities to throw events. As for the drugs part, well, we can't blame kids for being smarter. Once every two months or so is acceptable, but popping pills every weekend is dangerous, and more and more kids realize that.

I guess the only thing we can do is to continue to support the scene, and the people like Dave who make it alive. Yes, some parties won't make it, and we'll probably come to a point where less events will happen. It's all in the evolution of the scene, a scene wich has seen it's greatest days. Just like underground disco or rock and roll still exists, raves will become smaller, and less frequent.

well bannishing cigarettes may create a turnaround in the social order... smokers will stay home and non-smokers will become the more social people. umm yea, whatever. :p

we need a plan, then, to get more people to come to parties. a new kind of cool. a reason to be. a PLUR revival.
think of what attracted you to the parties at first...
and there is the music. we can't let that die!

i say... get more people involved together into throwing a party... or find a building where we can use two or three rooms and fusion two parties in one. i really loved electronik high for that. it makes more attending and people discover new music too.

it's not about your little organisation with your name on it... the U in PLUR is for unity, unity of the scene, unity of all the ravers. the spirit of community, tribe, family...

The fact that most raves seem to be nothing more than parties that go on after 3, and few ravers believe in PLUR anymore doesn't help. People need to dress up, do crazy stuff, make it feel like it's a god damn rave. It's easy for people to lose interest when the very thing that made raves special is dissapearing.

I think that the trick is to promote raves to non-ravers.. and then we they get to the party.. make them feel like they're part of something special and unique.. its kind of a mind game really.
