ableton's midi sequencing is still pretty damn basic though.. if you rewire it with reason it is a decent combo though

I think which sequencer you use all depends on personal preference. You have to choose something you like producing with, something that matches your style. I'd honestly sujjest you get the cracked versions of different software and find something that works with your setup, once you found it, stick with it.

Another thing, take what you want to buy/do with music later on into consideration. If you plan on buying alot of hardware, buying reason may not be the best choice. Likewise if you plan to use soft-synths pro-tools might not be your bag of tea.
