You think i'm like this in real life ? The main reason i go on these message boards is so i can be a giant asshole so that when i actually deal with people that count , i 've already spent that energy.

the tc plugin is a work around. Side chaining is a formal feature in pro applications like logic and protools. You don't have to fuck around with 3 year old vst apps that sound like shit or using 4 tracks to use the waves side chainer. Cubase doesn't support it , had you actually paid for it and gone to the official forfums , you would of read about 6 years of user requests for the feature and pages of how cubase is a piece of shit program built ala microsoft.

so I should use Ableton? lol
Logic is made by Apple right? is it like ableton?
Also, what software can I use to record from my computer's mic jack? OS X btw.
Thanx, you guys are more knowledgeable than you give yourselves credit. First, give each other some credit. Frank! stop starting flame wars!

peace

you can use peak but it requires a crack ..personally the crack version i had used to crash all the time.. so i used sound studio instead..its a freeware you can find on versiontracker.. it did the job for what i needed.

Hmm I'll write a better reply tomorrow but this is too good to pass up.

The cracked version of ableton has a tendency to self destruct at the most inopportune times so watch out if you are using it...

Cubase is the worst program on earth. Even the midi timing in internal soft synths sounds off. I have heard tons of issues about timing problems in cubase.

Logic is good but it's tough to learn

Protools is great for recording but I wouldn't want to use it to make all my tracks. But it's worth getting to know it if you can.

Most promoters don't pay fuck all so if you want to buy lots of fancy gear do what I did and get a real job and save up. There's no way to make any kind of living off the rave culture unless you are a drug dealer.

Alien Zed what kind of recording are you doing? For simple stuff soundedit is alright, heard a lot of good things about Amadaeus, I'm not on a Mac though. Peak is one of those programs like Cubase, a lot of people use it but everyone who does hates it. I certainly hate it.

i'm sure Logic kick ass but i can't afford it now so that's why i bought Ableton Live. Honnestly, i'm really surprise by the sound quality of this sofware. I mean for 470$ it's a really good deal. I learned ProTools in my sound design course and i was wondering if the ProTools M-Powered is good as the regular version.

oh, i use Peak and i never had a problem with it :b

i'm sure you can get the same quality of sound with what ever software you want to use that allows most third paty plugins. There are just some features you would expect for paying the kind of monye you do with Cubase that you don't get.

I'm surprised microsoft hasn't picked up Cubase. It would fit well next to all their other software that just does stupid stuff. Its like the windows XP of audio software.

HA! I didn't know there were side-chaining apps for Cubase!

And I was using a step highpass filter on the bass line...

I pretty much use cubase and like it. I feel it's solid.

I gave Cubase a few tries, but it indeed seems to be complicated for nothing. The built in audio editing features are nice but dispensable if you have SoundForge or Wavelab, and the interface is so unsexy. Ableton live on the other hand seems really good although the mixer and routing is awkard compared to FL Studio, and the plugins it comes with are average.

thanx first of all, that was insightful. Secondly I am into from scratch production of psytrance as well as the uncanny ability to do a hand stand. Not that that was relevant. So yeah, Reason was fun to make songs in... Ableton's learning curve seems to be 45 degrees NE. I want to buy a computer soon, but why buy a computer if I can't chose an app, you know?

talk to kalan and frank about making psytrance with Ableton Live ;)

honnestly dude, this software is really easy to learn and use. In my case, i improve my productivity with that. It's sounds good, support vst and au and is good for recording imo. Something that we should not forget also is a good audio interface. the MOTU Ultralite looks pretty cool ;)
