What Is Time?

There are various philosophies around the term kung fu, suggesting a deeper meaning. The following is an example of such a philosophy:

For a process to truly be kung fu, the following three elements must be present:

Motivation
Self-discipline
Time

Motivation is the basic driving force, and without it, kung fu can never be reached. It means both interest and the will to do something; a person who is forced to do something is not truly motivated. A motivated person, on the other hand, has interest in learning: they have a goal.

It is important to note a difference between the various types of motivation: A person can be motivated to do something, because if they do not they will be punished. Money can also lead to motivation, because you know that doing something will give you more money. However, the motivation kung fu comes from an interest and an inner desire to learn and develop, in which the goal is not an external gain, like avoiding punishment or earning money, but an internal one, with the only reward being knowledge, skill, strength and wisdom. This motivation can be inspired, but not controlled, by other people.

Self-discipline is closely related to motivation, but refers to the effort and patience required to actually get something done, and to get past obstacles that might appear on the way towards one's goal. While motivation is the mental state of wanting to do something, discipline is required to put motivation into action: A person might want to do something very much, but lacks the required amount of discipline to get started. Without this, motivation will lead to nothing.

It is true that a competent instructor can assist a person by providing discipline, helping that person to get past obstacles. This is good, but will not last forever, and in the end, it is always up to the person herself to put her thoughts into action.

Time is essential for finding one's motivation and self-discipline, and to actually accomplish something by making use of them, but motivation and self-discipline are also important to make a person willing to put time into accomplishing their goal: to prioritize.

In later stages, once motivation and discipline have become an integral part of a person's life, it is important not to stop spending time on practice. This is said to be a very important aspect of kung fu: Many ancient Chinese philosophers and martial artists consider time the most valuable commodity in a person's lives, as time cannot be replaced. It is said that one should use time wisely, and that, to get the most out of life, must practice kung fu in every activity. By finding interest in and putting effort and time into every action, one will make the best use of time, and live a happy and productive life.

The measure of time is man-made and countless different calendars have been made over time, but time itself is that which allows events to follow a sequence and it is not man-made. If we had no time, we would not be able to move or think, or even disintigrate.

I preffer challenging myself with the following questions: Does time pass? and Does space exist?

I propose that we are in a state of determined block time. While still remaining in control of our actions and how we affect ourselves and others, the future in some sense already physically exists somewhere else in a space/time block. In other words, TIME would just be another DIMENSION of space equally as important as the y-x-z axes.

It would be our counsiousness then that flows from one point in the block to another that creates this wonderful ilusion we percive as time.

TIME is what I wasted reading this stupid thread, it is also something that shouldn't be taken to come up with such threads.

ALL OF IT is also the amount of unbelievably weird and crazy replies on this board.

Time is nothing you ca grasp unless you step outseide it. Salvia is the only chemical known to man to allow one human to see time as nothing. Time is a concept that allows humans to slave over a concept of ownership and possession.

WE're electricty and once we leave our forms naturally we'll exist inside and outside of time simultaneously.

Did anyone know that suns EAT black holes?

Suns become black holes, Greg, after implosion, you know that. It is a SCIENTIFIC fact based on nuclear fusion and how it grows exponentially until its own gravity becomes so intense, it collapses on itself.

Clouds of Hydrogen begin condensing into more dense clusters due to gravitation. Eventually the density gets high enough that the Hydrogen begins fusing into Helium. This fusion releases energy, mostly in the form of electromagnetic radiation. Our sun is currently in this phase. Note that the gravitational attraction of the matter of the star is trying to make it smaller; this is balanced by the radiation pressure that is trying to push the matter outward making the star bigger. After about a billion years the Hydrogen fuel is exhausted. It starts fusing the Helium into heavier elements. The temperature of the star goes up, causing it to become much bigger. In this phase the star is called a "red giant." When this "fuel" is exhausted, it either becomes a neutron star, a white dwarf and/or becomes a black hole. For Sol, our sun, the first step of become a red giant should occur...oh I don't know...in about 4.5 BILLION years. We all have time to plan ahead, trust me.

So I'm afraid Mayans, ghosts, electricity, Gaia or whomever has anything to do with this very natural phenomena. Spiritual entities were assigned to these astronomical objects when science couldn't even begin to explain how it actually worked mechanically.

And yes, granted, the natural course of our evolution should theorically be energy-based, I'll give you that but no amount of drugs, spiritual enlightment or whatever can accelerate this process. That would be rushing evolution and would go against the very nature of humankind. Unless perhaps death is the final step in this evolution but for God's sake, I don't even wanna discuss this.

I'm sorry but I'm an ever eternal skeptic, I like to question things before believing them. Faith is not part of my vocabulary, especially if it's blind...

At one point, the sun will go supernova so hopefully by then, someone will develop sunblock cream with a coefficient of 3 548 435.

When the day comes, you and that trailer park you call home will be turned into cripsy bacon. Hmmm...bacon.

Indeed. Sol isn't even in it's adult phase yet. But hey, why wait ? 4.5 billion years can go pretty fast, we should prepare now. renounce your earthly possession right now and give them to me. If we collect enough cash, we'll built a rocket to live on Pluto, as far away as possible from the sun.

Pluto isn't as barren as you'd think. With sufficient cash, we could atmospherize the planet, bring in sand and rename the planet " Beach Party World ! "

Oh, the possibilities...

Even if our minds sequence the events themselves, it takes a forward movement to sequence something, ie:time. That would be like putting millions and millions of seperate frames together just to form a moment, and how would our brain know which to chose?

What we should really be debating is whether time is linear.. or speeds up and slows down..

personally i see no reason to believe that time is linear.. cause if time were to stop at any moment.. we would stop with it.. and when it starts up again, so would we..

we'd basically be completely oblivious to it's change..
